What's New in Money: 10 Richest Canadians, What We're Spending on Summer Vacations + More
By Kate Musgrove
July 9, 2012Here's a look at what's happening in finances and all things money-related for Canada:
- WalletPop.ca posted a list of the ten richest Canadians. I won't make you scroll through the whole person-by-person slideshow to find out that James Cameron is number one ($650 million) and Shania Twain and Keanu Reeves come in second and third with just under $500 million each. Also -- Beiber is nowhere to be found, despite his reported $110 million net worth.
- Canadians that are vacationing this summer plan to spend about $1700 doing so.
- On average, Canadians are paying $11,000 a year in income tax, donating $260 to charity and our net worth, per capita, is $193,500.
- Yorkdale Mall is opening about 30 new stores including Kate Spade, Ann Taylor, Ann Taylor Loft and Ted Baker London. This is relevant to the money roundup because it's going to be hard for me not to spend a lot of it at Kate Spade.
- The amount that the royal family spent on William and Kate's wedding remains hidden in the general "non-official expenditures" fund but given that the dress alone is reported to have cost $400,000 it must have been quite a bill.
