Best Buy Raises Free Shipping Threshold to $35.00
By Simon Hung
October 21, 2016One month after Amazon.ca raised their free shipping threshold, Best Buy has quietly done the same in their online store, as you’ll now have to spend a minimum of $35.00 to qualify for free shipping.
The $10.00 increase doesn’t come as a complete surprise for many, as some forum members had speculated that the increase was inevitable after Amazon.ca changed their shipping policy.
Back in 2010, Best Buy and Indigo both lowered their free shipping thresholds from $39.00 to $25.00 in an effort to remain competitive with Amazon.ca and it appears that Best Buy is replicating Amazon.ca’s strategy yet again. As of October 21, Indigo’s free shipping threshold is still $25.00.
If your Best Buy order is below $35.00, you’ll have to pay a shipping fee of $4.99 or higher, depending on shipping location and product size -- click here for more information about Best Buy’s shipping and delivery policies.
Let us know how you feel about the change and if it'll affect your spending habits at Best Buy!

View allCanada post was in huge loss and was concerned with people not sending letters anymore ever since email came into use. Their source of revenue is shipment of packages. So how can shipping get more expensive when they should have focused on improving margins by making things more efficient.
Online retailers should pull a Wal-Mart. Stop accepting visa to pressure visa to lower fees. I am sure if some retailer claim to drop Canada post as a vendor, they will do whatever to regain back the business.
Originally retailers want to promote online shopping for lesser cost. We used to get items quickly.
Now it seems they are isolating online shopping.
Before I could buy a bluray movie for free shipping, now it doesn't qualify. I guess i just go to Wal-Mart and buy it instead.
It doesn't make sense that instead of improving the online shopping experience, they are downgrading it.
As of this point, they are losing (at least 1) sales.
I'm almost starting to think Amazon/BB are joined at the hip.
Online shopping in Canada continues to worsen.
You have Google, use it.
Honestly I hate stores where employees are pestering me who likely knows less about the item I'm looking at than I already know. I'd rather be left alone and then go find someone if I actually require something from them.
I tend to buy more from Amazon nowadays anyway. Just recently was looking for a microSD card and Amazon had same product as BB but for $4 or less. Same shipping (LOL). So, who got my $$$? BuyBuy BestBuy.
Walmart minimum for free $50, Bay - minimum $45, Staples, $45, old navy, $50
No employees except at the cash and management but with 32" tvs hooked in barcode readers. When the customer scans the item both the price as well as a run down of the product will be presented by an actor in a Best Buy shirt.
He looked at me like I was Hitler and said "I have no idea" before walking away.
I pulled out my phone and did an ISPU right in the store; went to browse in the Dollar Tree next door and the pick up order came in 10 minutes.
I still hope he was the guy that had to find it and then bring it to the service desk to process the ISPU.
If something I want is online, and under free shipping, I'll order a random thing or two of it to get it above then just return them.
I'm paid to do a job. Not stand around and gawk at customers.
If they weren't paid anything at all I would agree.
At the very least they should be offering website shipping to store as a way to compete where Amazon Canada can't (right now).
