Amazon Prime Day 2017 is Officially Tuesday, July 11

By Simon Hung

Amazon Prime Day is officially back for 2017 and the one-day-only shopping event exclusively for Prime members will be held on Tuesday, July 11. It's Amazon's third Prime Day and you'll have 30 hours to shop this year, as the deals start on Monday, July 10 at 9:00 PM EST.

Prime Day will take place on July 11, but the deals start on July 10 at 9:00 PM EST.

Amazon Prime is ubiquitous for anyone who's shopped on Amazon before, but we've given a brief rundown on the service along with some of the deals we expect to see in Canada based on past Prime Day sales.

What is Amazon Prime?

Amazon Prime is a paid service from Amazon that grants free shipping with no minimum, access to Amazon Prime Video and more. Free shipping is the most notable benefit, as you won’t have to worry order minimums and some regions are eligible for same-day shipping.

How much is Amazon Prime?

Amazon Prime is $79.00 per year or $39.00 per year for eligible students. Free trials are available and you can cancel your membership at any time -- paid subscribers will be refunded a prorated amount.

Is Amazon Prime worth it?

A Prime membership is beneficial if you shop often on Amazon.ca and you’ll also gain access to exclusive benefits including 20% off video game pre-orders and 20% off diapers. Using a free trial is the easiest way to test if the service is right for you, but note that you’ll be charged the annual price once your trial ends, unless you cancel.

Are trial members eligible for Prime Day?

Yes, trial members will have access to Prime Day deals.

What’s the deal?

We don’t know the exact slate of deals planned for this year’s event and Amazon has only teased three deals in their official press release for the event.

  • Get a 40% off promotional credit toward a future book purchase with the purchase of any eBook
  • Take 30% off select VIZIO 24”, 32” and 48” televisions
  • Up to 40% off new Subscribe & Save subscriptions

What else?

Other deals are currently unknown, but we took a look at past Prime Day sales and made five RFD Bold Predictions™ with some deals we expect to see.

  • AmazonBasics -- Amazon.ca recently ended the extra 20% discount Prime members received on AmazonBasics products, leading to speculation about a return for Prime Day. They were 35% off in 2016, so we may see a similar discount
  • Diapers -- Huggies diapers were 50% off with an extra 20% off in 2015 and all diapers were up to 70% off with Subscribe & Save in 2016, so we expect to see more diaper deals this year
  • Instant Pot -- the Instant Pot 7-in-1 Pressure Cooker was $94.99 in 2016 (a historical low at the time) and given its popularity and increased frequency of discounts, we won’t be surprised if it’s on sale again
  • Storage -- computer storage is always a popular category and we’ve seen both hard drives and SSDs hit historical lows during past Prime Day sales, so there should be attractive deals for both
  • Video games -- we saw an Xbox One bundle with four games and an extra wireless controller for $349.99 in 2016 and we expect a deal for one or more major consoles this year. Increased bonus savings on video game pre-orders is another possibility

Tips and Tricks

  • Bookmark these pages -- the Amazon.ca Prime Day page and our Hot Deals forum. Once the sale starts, there will be a Prime Day thread on our forum with plenty of discussion
  • Buy first, think later -- the unofficial RFD way of life, the hottest deals will likely be available for a very limited time, so buy quickly to avoid FOMO
  • Check early, check often -- Amazon.ca will release deals every five minutes throughout Prime Day to encourage repeat visits, so check often to see new deals
  • Get the app -- on July 6, Prime members will get a $10.00 discount code for signing into the Amazon App for the first time. It’s unknown if existing app users will also get the code, but it doesn’t hurt to try
  • Insider trading -- Amazon has set up a Prime Day Insider Guide with tips on how to make the most of your membership and their schedule of events in the week leading up to Prime Day
  • Update your information -- make sure your credit card and address information is up-to-date so your checkout process is quick and painless

Keep your eyes peel for more Prime Day news and don't forget to visit RedFlagDeals on July 11 -- we'll have roundups of all the hottest Prime Day deals. Happy shopping!

All csr refuse to touch anything on prime day. 5 of them referred me to the promotions team. This has happened in the past. Promotion team does nothing.

Last time it was 130 flats of dog food that has price errors worthat $1400. Spent 4h on the phone with the Seattle customer support to get it worked out.

I just cancelled all my orders. Will return the one shipped to me and move on with my life.

Black Friday is still the best time to stock up on stuff because everybody is competing against each other. I'm finding that I buy the most stuff that time of year now

    • I will not regret if I miss any deal since there always new deals in the future.

By the way, Amazon starts having "Prime Exclusive Deal" in a regular day now. However, I don't believe it can attract people to sign up the membership because spending $79+tax to save few dollars doesn't make sense to anyone especially 99% of everyday deals do not really offer significant savings at all. If many deals become "Prime Exclusive Deal" in the future, then Amazon will eventually become Costco and Prime membership will become pointless.
      Hi there,

I regret not getting some deals... but at least I didn't spend on something I really don't need...

      Ju Leon...

I'm curious if they still honor the original price that was subscribed too.

Palmolive Ultra Dish & Sink Dish Liquid, 739 ml - 12.05

    • I really suspect some of the CSR/manager doesn't even know what is happening inside from Amazon especially those working on the weekend. It happened to me in the past that Amazon sent me replacement 2 times because the carrier told them it was lost. However, I ended up getting all 3 delivery and Amazon didn't require me to send back the extra items. No wonder why the profit margins is small from Amazon retail because of all these errors. If it is not the profit from AWS which is getting very popular now, I don't believe the company can continue to be profitable.
      Oh Amazon...
Ordered a number of things on Prime Day. Wasn't delivered when guaranteed so I got on with the chat the day after. They told me if not there by 5:00PM to contact them. No package, still shows out for delivery. Call them and the next CSR tells me the "shipping label was incorrect," "items are no longer in stock and my order was not even sent out" (tracking shows it was). Ask to speak with a manager. Tells me the same thing yet tracking still shows out for delivery. They legit don't know whether or not it was even sent out so they offer me a refund. In last ditch effort, I have them call me one last time so we can verify whether or not the package is still coming. He laughs (at the situation) and assures me it will arrive.

Wake up this morning, shipping changes to Delivered... yesterday to our rental office but no note of it (seems a full 1 day for shipping to update properly). Oh Hi Amazon stuff... didn't know if you were coming or not according to your second CSR and Manager. The first and last CSRs were absolutely correct.
Usually love shopping Amazon but the run around with this was pretty frustrating.

TLDR: ordered Prime Day deals, Amazon reps and a manager are 50/50 on if the package was even sent out (it was), refunded me, package shows up anyway. Poor communication. Amazon #fail

    • You should contact them in this case. I totally believe this is cancellation error/mistake. Normally, unless you get a bad CSR, Amazon will allow you to order it again and adjust to the same price as you ordered from the Prime Day.
I ordered a cheapo Ukelele, I thought my nephews would like to play with it, and Amazon just canceled my order out of the blue saying it's "not available from any of our sources at this time". It's still in stock on their site, of course no discount now if I were to re-order it.

This is my first year with actual paid prime and I'm surprised they'd do something like that

    • Picked up an Echo Dot, Furnace sensor and ampified OTA TV antenna.

Cheaper than in Canada, not sure what I'll do with the Echo Dot yet since I have nothing automated at home but it was cheap enough to try it out. Relatives bringing it over in a couple weeks.

I'm told from another thread that Canadian Prime accounts (student or otherwise) won't allow access to U.S. Prime deals so I'm wondering if it's even with it for a normal 30 day Amazon.com Prime free trial.

One thing though is it's not a broad 20% off ANY Amazon Warehouse deal, it's only on select items, which is kind of a bummer if they do the same thing here.

Here's the Amazon.com link that shows the items receiving the extra 20% off Warehouse
