Disney+ is Raising Subscription Rates in Canada This February
By Simon Hung
December 21, 2020It'll be more expensive to stream your favourite Disney shows next year, as Disney+ will be raising subscription rates in Canada this February.
Starting February 23, 2021, monthly plans will cost $11.99 per month (currently $8.99), while annual plans will cost $119.99 per year (currently $89.99) – an increase of $3.00 and $30.00, respectively. This marks the first time Disney+ has raised their prices in Canada, although the service did eliminate free trials earlier this year.
2021 aims to be a landmark year for Disney+, as the new prices coincide with the launch of Star, a new Disney+ channel that will add thousands of new titles from Disney-owned studios like ABC Signature, 20th Century Studios, 20th Television, FX, Freeform, Searchlight and more. Star content will be included with all Disney+ subscriptions and feature several notable shows like 24, Bob's Burgers, Family Guy, Grey's Anatomy and more.
The new rates will not be charged to those with an active subscription, which means the best way to avoid the price hike would be to subscribe to an annual plan before February 23, 2021 at the current rate of $89.99. In this case, you'll get access to the entire Disney+ streaming library and the upcoming Star catalogue for approximately $7.49 per month over 12 months – click here to sign up for Disney+ before the price hike goes into effect.
Originally launched in November 2019, Disney+ is a video streaming service with over 86.8 million subscribers worldwide and the home of several popular entertainment franchises including Marvel, National Geographic, Pixar, Star Wars and more.

View allin regards to the Star addon, we spotted Sons of Anarchy on it, which we'd meant to watch for a while but never got around to it. 2 episodes in and were hooked. Didn't think I'd find anything to watch on Star, but I guess I was wrong
Called the customer service and rep told me he can not do anything except to offer me a free month and he has no clue why pricing switched early?!
So disappointed in Disney, told him to keep the free month and they just lost a new customer
edit: I figured it out - my smart dns service was giving me USA Disney on the apple tv as US doesn't get Star. I didn't have a smart dns on my iphone.
Absolutely nothing wrong with splitting the cost with another family though. Hell, there's folks in this very thread who are going in on group buys with other RFDers to reduce the costs.
We'll probably keep paying for it, but we may or may not share the account with friends who may or may not share their netflix account with us It may or may not help bring the costs down overall
Rated R stuff on a Disney platform, awesome
Unfortunately I canceled my monthly subscription to upgrade so I lost the $8.99 honored pricing too
I called in to Disney+ and they're getting a lot of complaints about it going into effect early (the reps themselves didn't know)
Still on the line right now to see if they will fix this and still honor the $89.99 annual subscription
I'm lucky to have friends who shared theirs with me. I rarely use Disney+ and Apple Music. I used Netflix more than I thought I would but still wouldn't pay for it. LOL
Yes, Mulan was garbage. Aladdin being my all-time favourite Disney animated film. I promised to never watch the live action remake. Lion King was mediocre at best, I would've been okay with it but they hired Beyonce which ruined it even more. I love Beauty & the Beast.

Will not be resubscribing anytime soon, especially with the increased cost.
Got rid of free trial week. Now hiking prices without any added value? Mandalorian is the only good thing and it's widely available for streaming outside of Disney+. Meh. Unless you have kids don't bother. Kids like to watch the same movies over and over. Just buy them.
$8.99/month
Renews on Feb 24, 2021
I cannot find how to switch to yearly? I tried to cancel via google play but won't work.
