KFC is bringing back one of the most iconic sandwiches in fast food history, as the Double Down has returned to the KFC menu in Canada.
The Double Down originally debuted in Canada over a decade ago in October 2010 and instantly became a viral sensation thanks to its simple yet absurd formula – the sandwich features bacon, a slice of Monterey Jack cheese and aioli sauce, all sandwiched between two chicken fillets instead of standard buns.
Despite its success, the sandwich was discontinued within a month, but re-appeared in brief stints in 2011, 2012, 2015 and most recently in 2018 with the even more absurd Waffle Double Down.
Now back for 2021, the Double Down is listed on the KFC Canada website as the "If You Know You Know Sandwich", with a blurred photo to mask its re-appearance on the menu. However, the shape of the blur is unmistakable and the sandwich description is a dead giveaway, describing the IYKYK Sandwich as "our iconic bunless sandwich featuring crispy bacon, Monterey Jack cheese, and Finger-Lickin' Good sauce...between two hand-breaded, extra crispy chicken fillets."
A standalone Double Down is priced for $10.99 in Toronto (pricing may vary by region) and can also be ordered in a combo or box meal for $12.99 and $15.49, respectively. For calorie-counters, a single Double Down comes with 610 calories, 40 grams of fat and 1530 milligrams of sodium.
The Double Down will be officially available starting Monday, October 4, but early access is available now online or through the KFC Canada app for fans who want eat the sandwich before its official return.
