Tim Hortons Brings Back Roll Up to Win for a Second Time in 2021

By Simon Hung

Canadians will have a second chance this year to win millions of prizes at Tim Hortons, as the coffee chain is bringing back their popular Roll Up to Win sweepstakes for a second time in 2021.

Roll Up to Win was held earlier this year in March and this will mark the second time Tim Hortons has ever held their Roll Up to Win contest twice in a single calendar year.

"It's been another challenging year, but we wanted to give Canadians something to look forward to and enjoy this fall," said Tim Hortons chief marketing officer Hope Bagozzi in a statement. "We're celebrating our guests and showing our appreciation by giving them a second chance to play Roll Up this year and win with every roll."

From September 20 to October 17, guests who make an eligible purchase can unlock a roll in the Tim Hortons app for a chance to win a prize. Like with all recent Roll Up to Win contests, this version is digital only, after Tim Hortons eliminated paper cup rolls in 2020.

This iteration also has the largest prize pool ever for a Roll Up to Win contest, with over 20 million prizes including Xbox Series S consoles, Crave streaming subscriptions, Cineplex movie tickets, Tim Hortons coffee and much more – we've listed the complete prize pool for the contest, sorted by rarity.

  • Volkswagen 2022 Taos Highline vehicles (10 available)
  • American Express $1000 prepaid cards (100 available)
  • Hilton six-night vacations and two-night getaways (160 available)
  • Parkland Gas $100 gift cards (300 available)
  • Samsung Galaxy S21 5G and Galaxy Watch4 (300 available)
  • Skullcandy Crusher Evo headphones (750 available)
  • Home Hardware $100 digital gift cards (1000 available)
  • Xbox Series S consoles with Forza Horizon 5 (1050 available)
  • Uber Eats $20 digital gift cards (20,000 available)
  • Tim Hortons $25 gift cards (45,000 available)
  • Crave one-year subscriptions with HBO Starz, Super Écran and $10 promo codes (100,010 available)
  • Cineplex Movies for a Year passes, General Admission tickets and digital rentals (125,050 available)
  • Sportsnet NOW three-month sports streaming subscriptions (200,000 available)
  • The Athletic three-month and one-year subscriptions (201,000 available)
  • Skullcandy.ca $20 and 40% off digital promo codes (4,500,000 available)

    • This is a private lottery which every customer pays for whether they enter it or not.. NPE: "No purchase entry method available (must be postmarked by October 17/21 and received by October 24/21)." No address or additional instructions in the rules, because who would do this when the purchase price is lower than the cost of entering without purchase?

I've done 50-100 NPE envelopes for the last few years. 😂

It's only one stamp and no essay, and previously you've gotten all possible bonus entries with each code. It's usually around the same price or cheaper than purchase, and much faster since purchases have to spaced out. It'll be interesting to see what it's like this year, they release full rules on the day it starts. I agree it would be nice if it was completely free though!

      What a pointless response.

I actually did better on roll up the rim to win last time because it was all on the app and the points added up fast.

In truth I got more points for free menu items last time than free items in the past many campaigns.

I stopped going to Tim Hortons when they pulled that shit.

Literally the only thing they had going and they ruined it.

The app works quite fine and I've won more on the app than actually rolling up a physical rim.

In fact I think the app makes the contest even better.

    • There's no rolling up the rim. The print on the cup says you gotta use the app or online. I went online and it says you need to basically scan your points card at point of purchase and basically no way afterwards to add the purchase to your account.

There's no rolling up, the cup is worthless. You're basically finding out at POS whether you won anything or not. This is very annoying, my mom is 80, she loves rolling up the cup rims. How is she gonna get an app and scan some card and check online when she's just trying to enjoy her coffee.

    • Your mom can simply scan a physical card and have her family members (i.e. you) check online.
Previously I lost many chances to win because they ran out of the size of cups that I ordered. (And everyone asked for "double cup" for all beverages a couple of years ago while I saw much less such requirement these two years. I think the digital format helped reduce waste more or less.)

There is no actual (Federal) Canadian law that states that rolling the rim of a cup is illegal.

Anyways, they could've just printed out on the receipt what the prize was rather than forcing you to participate in this electronic scheme. Seems like pointless extra hoops. Annoying at drive thru but fine.

You can create a rewards account for her in 30 seconds. I don’t know if their still giving out physical cards, but you can just screenshot and print the QR code for her. She just has to show the paper to the cashier and she’ll automatically get rolls added to her account. Next time you or another family member see her, you can easily log into her account through a smartphone or computer and help her do her rolls.

Also, she’s missing out on a lot of free coffees anyways. Just by scanning her code she’ll get one free coffee around every seven visits I think, even when RUTR isn’t running. :)
