PC Optimum Members Can Collect Points at Esso Stations Starting This Summer

By Ambia Staley

PC Optimum members will soon have even more ways to accumulate points, as Loblaw Companies Ltd. just announced that members will be able to collect points at Esso gas stations starting this summer.

In a press release made early Tuesday morning, Loblaw announced that they have teamed up with Imperial Oil Ltd., allowing shoppers to earn points at more than 1,800 Esso stations across Canada.

The new deal will give PC Optimum members the chance to collect on eligible fuel purchases, convenience store products and car wash services. Members purchasing fuel at Esso will earn 10 points per litre, as well as 10 points per dollar on eligible convenience store or car wash services. Registered members are also expected to receive targeted offers. Customers using their PC Financial Mastercard at Esso will continue to "have the ability to accelerate their earnings".

The PC Optimum program launched on February 1, 2018, giving members the opportunity to collect or redeem points at over 2,500 Loblaw and Shoppers Drug Mart banner stores.

Currently, PC Optimum members looking to buy fuel can collect points at Mobil stations.

    • PC Optimum members will earn 10 points per litre on fuel, and 10 points per dollar on eligible convenience store or car wash services at Esso stations. Registered members may also receive targeted offers. Additionally, customers using a President's Choice Financial Mastercard® at Esso and Mobil stations will continue to have the ability to accelerate their earnings potential as they do today.
This is great. Sounds like PCMC holders will continue to get their 20pts/L (regular), or 30pts/L (premium) in addition to the base 10 pts/L that they will begin to offer in the summer. So that's roughly 3-4% cashback at $1.00/L. Or more accurately in today's gas prices, about 2.4-3.2% cashback @ $1.25/L.

I'll continue to fill up at Mobil stations when I can, because their prices are usually a few cents cheaper per litre.

    • great info Happosai!

Just wondering though, i believe the pc mastercard website says PC World Elite earns 30PC points / $1 at PC stores (including gas stores)
Then is it 7c/L on top with PC Optimum at PCGasStores/ Mobil1 gas ?

This article says "at Esso will earn 10 points per litre, as well as 10 points per dollar"
Isn't that way less than the "7c/L + 30 points per dollar" at PC Gas?

OR am i confused with this point system?

      Thanks in advance

    • So without PCMC it's 1 cent off per litre. With PCMC its 3 cents off regular and 4 cents off premium. Do you also get another 10 points/dollar on top of that with PCMC? So it would be about 4.2 cents off per litre regular and 5.3 cents off per litre premium. I think it's still cheaper for me to go to Costco. 2% cash not points on gas with the Costco MC and the price itself is discounted even more. Or Canadian Tire if you buy gift cards on sale and use a cash back CC.

    • I'll definitely have to stop by the gas station and make sure I get my receipt to confirm this... I always gassed up at Superstore Gas Bars (Mobil now) and always got my 7c/L back. But I haven't bothered to check my receipts for the past month or so...

    • Awww... I see now why yesterday I received an email from Aeroplan letting me know that I won't get points starting June 1st if I buy gas at Esso...

In my case this means far less visits at Esso.

    • Overall a good thing. Aeroplan seemed to be dying out, anyway and now there are way, way more gas stations to accumulate PC Optimum points at.

    • The press release states that people using their PC Optimum card will get 10 points per litre of fuel they purchase. They can also earn 10 points per $1 on eligible convenience store or car wash services.

Those with a PC Financial Mastercard will "continue to have the ability to accelerate their earnings potential as they do today" -- which probably means your earnings at Esso are generally going to be the same as what you are currently earning at Mobil.

You can take a look at what you can earn with each card on the PC Financial site.

    • Will we be getting both pc optimum points as well as esso extra points at the same time at the pump?

    • This is a crappy deal. I get 90 points a litre from Mobil 1 stations using my PC World Elite in Winnipeg.

    • Check your Pc world elite mastercard statement - they either screwed up or they are trying to pull a fast one ( and hope nobody notices ) - because my points went from 3% down to 1% on my Feb 22 statement but on their own PC financial website it still said 3% - so I sqwaked.

    • Yay! I confirmed we still get 7cents/L back in points. Just gassed up at Superstore (mobil) gas station in Calgary and got my receipt. Filled 47.021L and got 3292 points (base offer = 1646pts + bonus offer = 1646pts). I have a PC Elite World Mastercard and was filling with mid-grade gas.

      7 cents/L = 70pts/L
      47 L x 70pts = 3290 pts
(extra 2 points probably from the slight over 0.021L gas I filled up).
