One of the biggest movies of 2020 is coming to your living room on Christmas Day, as Wonder Woman 1984 is set to release this Friday, December 25 in Canada.
Originally scheduled for release in March, Wonder Woman 1984 was delayed multiple times over the summer due to the ongoing pandemic, as extended lockdowns across North America made it difficult to release the highly-anticipated movie in theatres. On November 18, Warner Bros. announced that Wonder Woman 1984 would adopt a hybrid release model in the United States, simultaneously releasing in traditional theatres and through WarnerMedia's HBO Max streaming service on December 25.
At the time of the announcement, Canadians were left in limbo, as there is a widespread reluctance among movie-goers to visit theatres during a pandemic and HBO Max is not available in Canada. However, Warner Bros. Canada has since confirmed that Wonder Woman 1984 will also premiere in Canada on December 25 in theatres (where open) and through select video-on-demand services.
- In theatres – tickets available in select regions at Cineplex, Landmark Cinemas and Rainbow Cinemas
- At home – available for $29.99 from premium video-on-demand services starting December 25
Warner Bros. Canada did not specify which on-demand services would carry Wonder Woman 1984 at launch, but some services including the Cineplex Store and Google Play Movies already have store pages set-up ahead of its premiere, with other likely services being Apple iTunes and Amazon (via the Prime Video Store).
It'll cost $29.99 to stream Wonder Woman 1984 at home from all participating platforms and according to The Canadian Press, the price only includes a 48-hour rental period and it's unlikely that you'll have access to stream the movie once the 48-hour window elapses.
After the film's theatrical screening window passes (typically around 90 days), Bell has confirmed that Wonder Woman 1984 will be available on Crave at no additional charge to subscribers in 2021.
Set 70 years after the events of Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman 1984 is the highly-anticipated sequel that sees Diana Prince come face-to-face with two iconic DC supervillains – Maxwell Lord and The Cheetah.
