Friends is Leaving Netflix Canada on December 31

By Simon Hung

Netflix and Friends are going on a break, as the hit 90s sitcom will be leaving Netflix Canada on December 31.

Originally announced on December 1, the news comes as a bit of a surprise, as Friends has been one of the longstanding staples of Netflix and one of the most popular shows on the service.

However, the show won't be homeless for long, as all 10 seasons and 236 episodes will be pivoting to Crave the same day they're removed from Netflix. The move comes exactly one year after Friends left Netflix in the United States and moved exclusively to WarnerMedia's HBO Max after Netflix's streaming rights had expired.

No specific reasons were provided about the show's departure from Netflix Canada, but the circumstances may be similar to that of the United States, as Crave is the exclusive streaming home of HBO Max titles in Canada (HBO Max is not available for Canadians as of December 2020).

Crave is a video streaming service with an extensive catalogue of popular shows including 30 Rock, Star Trek: Picard, The Handmaid's Tale and Seinfeld (which is ironically leaving Crave and heading to Netflix in 2021). The service starts at $9.99 per month with seven-day free trials for new subscribers.
