Walt Disney World continues to be one of the top vacation destinations for Canadian travellers. While already packed with things to entertain guests of all ages, Disney continues to expand and refresh their theme parks. At the recent D23: Destination D conference, they just announced a whole bunch of upcoming changes and these are the biggest announcements that you don’t want to miss out on.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge New Ride Information
One of the most anticipated things coming to Walt Disney World is the opening of a new Star Wars themed land in fall of 2019. Until now we did not know the names of any new rides being built in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.
The first new ride is named Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run which puts you in control of one of three unique roles aboard the infamous ship from the Star Wars franchise.
The other new ride is named Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and it puts you in the middle of an epic battle between the First Order and the Resistance. Fans of the latest Star Wars movie releases will appreciate the Kylo Ren appearance on this ride.
If that wasn’t enough Star Wars news, it was also revealed that famed composer John Williams will be producing original themes created especially for Star Wars land.
Additionally there was also new information revealed on the highly anticipated new Star Wars resort hotel:
“This multi-day, fully immersive adventure will take guests aboard a luxury starship with all the features expected of a first-class hotel, including dining, recreation, and accommodations, all authentic to the Star Wars universe.”
For Star Wars fans, you won’t find a better or more immersive experience than visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and staying at the Star Wars themed resort.
An All New Nighttime Experience at Hollywood Studios
Disney loves celebrating it’s big milestones and 2019 marks Disney's Hollywood Studios 30th anniversary. Starting in May of next year a new nighttime experience called Wonderful World of Animation will premiere.
Making use of state of the art projection systems, the new show will delight guests by putting on an epic experience of light and sound that takes them back throughout Disney Animation’s 90 year history starting from when it all began with a mouse.
New Details on the Skyliner Gondola System
We finally have some more information on the new Disney Skyliner system that will transport guests via the skies. It’s now scheduled to open in fall of 2019 which is right around the opening date of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and will be of a huge benefit since it will service both Hollywood Studios and Epcot theme parks.
Guests will be able to avoid all the traffic down below in gondolas featuring Mickey and Minnie. Remember that the gondola doesn’t service all of the Disney World resorts so you’ll need to stay at Pop Century, Art of Animation, or Caribbean Beach resorts to have direct access to a Skyliner station.
What’s New At Epcot!
IllumiNations, the nighttime fireworks and lights show is coming to an end. It’s being replaced by a new show called Epcot Forever, and pays tribute to the beautiful history of this park. Filled with choreographed fireworks, music, lighting, lasers, and special effects kites, this will be a must see attraction when it debuts in fall 2019.
Another exciting change for us Canadians at Epcot is the update coming to the popular O Canada! 360-degree show at the Canada Pavilion in the World Showcase. We don’t yet have details about what the new experience will be like but Disney always shows much love and appreciation for Canada so we expect it to be a wonderful, must-see update.
