As announced earlier this year, Loblaw Companies Ltd. have partnered up with Esso to bring their popular PC Optimum points loyalty program to Esso stations. Starting today you’ll be able to earn PC Optimum points on fuel and retail purchases at Esso.

If you’re unfamiliar with the PC Optimum program, it’s the loyalty program offered by Loblaw Companies Ltd. and was created after the company purchased Shoppers Drug Mart and merged the Shoppers Optimum program with their own PC Plus program. For more information on how the PC Optimum program works, or what it has to offer, be sure to check out our PC Optimum Beginner's Guide.
You’ll earn 10 points per litre of fuel purchased at the pumps and for each dollar spent on eligible convenience and car wash purchases. Those with physical PC Optimum cards can simply swipe their card at the pump to collect points. If you don’t have or use a physical card, you’ll be able to enter the phone number associated with your account at the pump instead.
Those looking to accelerate their point earnings can use a PC Financial Mastercard and earn at least 30 points per litre of fuel. Another way to potentially earn more points is through bonus offers. To receive bonus offers you’ll need to register for personalized offers in the PC Optimum app or at pcoptimum.ca.
I, for one, am a big fan of this new change. The PC Optimum program is much more versatile than the Aeroplan program it replaces at Esso. The PC Optimum points you now earn at Esso (and also Mobil stations) are redeemable towards everyday purchases at thousands of Loblaw banner stores across Canada.
