The PC Optimum Beginner’s Guide

The PC Optimum Beginner’s Guide

By Simon Hung

Starting today, the PC Plus and Shoppers Optimum loyalty programs have merged to become PC Optimum.

The merger was first announced in November 2017 and now that the program has launched, both Shoppers Optimum and PC Plus are defunct, with existing balances automatically converted at their full value when you sign up for PC Optimum.

How to Start

The quickest way to get started is to go to the PC Optimum website or download the app on Android and iOS.

You’ll need to register for a PC id account to use the program and once you sign up, you can link your PC Plus and Shoppers Optimum balances to PC Optimum.

Physical PC Optimum cards are available at all Loblaw grocery stores and Shoppers Drug Mart locations. See a cashier to swap your old card for a PC Optimum card -- if you’ve already created an account online, the PC Optimum card will automatically link. Otherwise, you can manually link it online or with the app.

How to Earn Points

Earning points is mostly unchanged, as you can earn PC Optimum points through personalized offers or for every dollar you spend, depending on the store. Offers will vary every week and over time, the program will learn your shopping habits to cater offers for you. Some offers can also be saved for the following week or dismissed, though this functionality is disabled at launch.

Most offers are applicable anywhere PC Optimum is accepted and must be loaded online or in the app for redemption. Plus, some offers may be marked as store-exclusive and only applicable at the specified store.

There are over 2500 stores across Canada that accept PC Optimum and we’ve listed the banners below, along with the method of earning points and eligible provinces. Points can also be earned at stores that offer online shopping, including Click & Collect grocery orders, Beauty Boutique and Joe Fresh.

In addition, a new feature with PC Optimum is the ability to create a Household, which lets you invite up to nine PC Optimum members and pool your points together to get more personalized offers and accumulate points faster. The concept is geared towards families or very trustworthy friends, as any member of a Household can redeem an entire pool of points at any time.

How to Spend Points

Points can redeemed for merchandise at any participating store or online once you've reached a minimum of 10,000 PC Optimum points, which has a value of $10.00, up to a maximum value of 500,000 points for $500.00 worth of merchandise. There are some restrictions, as points cannot be used for tobacco, alcohol, lottery tickets, gift cards, transit fare and passport photos.

You can redeem your points at any time, although it may be wise to wait until a points event takes place, as this will boost the value of your points and PC Optimum has promised to continue popular promotions like "20x the points" and "spend your points" events in the future.

These are some basics of the new PC Optimum program, but you can learn more by visiting the PC Optimum FAQ or the Official PC Optimum Discussion Thread in our Shopping Discussion forum, where you can find hundreds of savvy shoppers and PC Optimum enthusiasts that can provide shopping tips and answer questions.
