Netflix Adds Offline Playback Ability
By Simon Hung
November 30, 2016Netflix released an update to their app for iOS and Android today and with it comes a feature that many users have been wanting for a long time -- offline playback!
That’s right, you can now download select titles to your device and watch them offline without a data connection! This new feature is a somewhat surprising addition, as the company has previously stated that they had no plans of offering offline playback ability.
Currently, there are a bevy of popular titles available for download, including several Netflix originals like Narcos, Stranger Things and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, letting you take your Netflix binge wherever you go. To view all titles available for download, tap the “Available for Download” menu in the navigation drawer. Downloaded titles will appear in the “My Downloads” menu in the app.
The download feature is available to all Netflix subscribers and it’s important to keep in mind that downloading titles will still consume bandwidth, but this is a great feature for those with unlimited home internet and those frequently on-the-go, as you can download titles using your home network instead of streaming with a mobile data connection.
Let us know if you’ll be using the feature and if you’re glad to see offline playback finally come to Netflix!
