RedFlagDeals.com Warns of Sites Selling Fraudulent Wonderland Tickets
By Kate Musgrove
July 15, 2016Recently, we received some complaints from users of a site called Red Group Deals. Some people are confused by the similarity of their name to ours and purchase items assuming the site is trustworthy. The site is attempting to sell Canada’s Wonderland tickets (among other things) at a discount and it turns out that the tickets are fake. RedFlagDeals.com is not associated with Red Group Deals in any way.
We’ve previously covered tips to avoid being scammed online. Here’s a quick rundown of what to keep in mind:
- If you’re unfamiliar with a site, do quick search for reviews. Searching Red+Group+Deals+Scam brings up 2.8 million search results, with many recent news stories of people who have purchased fake Wonderland tickets.
- Check the reviews on the site – if they are all recent, all positive, and all poorly written (or written with the same grammatical quirks) they could be fake.
- If you're considering making a purchase from a website you're unfamiliar with, check out the same product direct from the source. If you look at the real ticket purchase page for Canada’s Wonderland, you’ll see a clear disclaimer that tickets from Red Group Deals and The Group Deals are not valid.
- Don't be fooled by lookalikes. Shady brands will pick names that are similar to well-known, legitimate companies in the hope that consumers will be confused. Red Group Deals seems to be counting on people being confused by the similarity of their name to ours.
- If the site has a lot of spelling errors or awkward writing (or it sounds like it just popped out of Google Translate), you'll probably want to beware. Red Group Deals has spelling errors and grammatical mistakes in almost every sentence.
- A legitimate website will provide a variety of secure payment options. Red Group Deals only accepts Visa, and that’s a definite warning sign. Generally, legitimate websites accept a variety of credit, debit and electronic payments.
