Esprit is Returning to Canada in 2016
By Ambia Staley
January 6, 2016With 2015 being the year Canadians lost a series of retailers (Target, Future Shop, and Blacks to name a few), it seems 2016 is starting off to be the year of retail comebacks. Recently, the international fashion brand Esprit announced plans to return to the Canadian retail market.
Founded in San Francisco in 1968, the casual clothing brand rose to popularity in the 1980s. Unfortunately by 2011, the brand seemed to lose favour with North American shoppers, causing the company to pull out of both Canada and the US later that year in order to focus on the European and Asian markets. Since leaving the Canadian market, Esprit has had a major overhaul, which has lead to its success in over 40 countries and 900 retail locations. With such success in the international market, it will be interesting to see how the brand will fare upon its return to Canada.
So far, Esprit has only announced that the stores are set to open spring 2016, but where they will be located is still unknown.
