    • And if you haven't already done so, assuming it is still available for August, download Slime Rancher! Great game! So addictive.

Hilariously so. I don't know why but my wife and I can't put it down! It's like Minecraft meets Farmville or something lol

To each is their own. I played for about 5 mins and then uninstalled. I prob could have given a better effort but i know that game is just not for me. The bike game was okay. Forza motorsport 5 is a pretty good
      Addition!

I tried it for 5 minutes after I installed it, and thought "wtf is this crap?", and just put it aside. A couple weeks later, I decided to give it a proper go, and I was hooked. I don't think I have put more time into any free Games with Gold title. Maybe Super Mega Baseball, but I actually ended up paying for that one, as I missed the Free with Gold offer.

This is my first foray into the farming genre, and I can definitely see how people can get sucked in to these sorts of games.

Tonight, I think I will install a Slimeball hoop. :)

    • Question: can you purchase a free game
Like forza motorsport 5 and not install it right away? Every time i get a free game it automatically begins to install. Forza 5 is 40+ GB and i may just want to dl another time

    • Slime Rancher is one the most highest rated games. For sure each to their own but don't bash things you dislike yourself. It's not my cup of tea but a ton of people love the hell out of the game. Even on steam worse toxic community then I would say Xbox these days has like a 95% review out of 10k reviews.

Of course. You "buy" it and own it forever [*XB1: while you keep your Gold sub active]. You never have to install it if you don't want to. Anyone who doesn't do this and pays for Gold boggles my mind.

I think they're talking about buying it (for free) without it installing automatically. Nope, it always installs automatically and there's no option to stop it. I have my console shut off and not on stand by, so when I turn it on I can cancel the download, but other than that. Nope. Unless someone knows something I don't then please share!

turn off auto update games in your settings. I had this off for a long time now I have unlimited bandwidth and only recently turned it back on. "buy" the free games online. then they just show up as you own them but not installed.
Only thing here, is if there is a game you play often and a nice big update comes out you have to wait to install it manually as you shut the feature off.

Incorrect. You can click "buy" which will start installing the game, but then immediately stop the installation. Just click the little x beside the progress meter. You don't even have to leave the store. I've done that for every GWG game since Dec 2014 (when I got my Xbox).

And I also have auto-updates turned on, so if an update happens while I'm at the office. I don't have to download it manually when I get home from work.

I don't remember seeing a bar on the MS website to cancel with the 'x'. I know that pops up in the MS store app if your computer has it.

If you "purchase" the free on your PC and you have Auto-Updates activated, then the game will download automatically and no way to stop it from your computer.

If you get the free game from your Xbox One, you can click the "X" that shows up right after the download start (as toronto1979 mentioned).

Yeah, but what the previous poster is asking is if we can purchase it without it downloading automatically and my answer was "no". Then I was told "Incorrect". This is what I get for trying to help someone on the internet.

Yeah I know. Both of you were correct depending on which platform (Website or Xbox One) you get the game from.

No need to get salty. You said "Unless someone knows something I don't then please share!".

You absolutely can "purchase" a free GWG title without downloading it if you do it directly on the console. If you use the MS website to claim your free games that's another story, but I don't know why anyone would. It's much faster and easier to do it directly on the console. In fact, if I recall correctly in the latest OS update there is now even a button called "get" or "claim" beside "download" which alleviates the need to start then stop the download.

I hardly turn my console on. I read RFD on my PC, see games with gold deal, go to MS store and "get" the game for free. It'll get pushed to my console. That's a lot less work than going to my living room, turning on my console and receiver, and tv, and then doing the rest. :)
