    • You'd think they'd be pushing PS4 Pro more than the original nowadays.

i got one of those since they come with 5.07 firmware, not quite ideal as you cant replace the hardrive without updating, but you can run all the exploits that work with 5.05

why? They make money from the game sales and services and not the hardware (they might be getting a tiny margin now). The entire reason for the pro was to hopefully stop some gamers from going pc later in the gen like many did last time. The intended audience for the pro isnt nearly as big as the og device, but these are some of the gamers who buy the most games.

I'm actually getting back into gaming and was debating whether to get a PS4 or PC. However, what gaming PC's are there for 379.99? Not many...

It makes no sense to compare a pc to a console, a console is mostly a single purpose device. When I think of the cost to make my pc a gaming pc I only think of the gpu cost.

    • Kinda crazy how it's the same price now as the launch 4+ years ago, with the PS5 around the corner too.
Well a larger HDD but those are dirt cheap anyway.

edit: whoa so much hate, its just a ps4 folks
      Exactly... it's *just* a PS4, for $379 in mid 2019.

With PS5 (with full PS4 backwards compatibility confirmed) expected to be so close, any full priced PS4 is perceived as a rip off and especially the ones not packaged with a game, which Sony does quite often.

If I HAD TO spend full price on a PS4, I'd wait for whatever the next special edition Pro bundle is with a new release game. ($120 more, including $80 new release)

While the initial cost of entry may appear higher keeping up with console gaming is more expensive in the long run due to higher game prices, online subscription fees, limited selection of expensive peripherals etc. Look at the difference in quality and frequency of deals and free game giveaways between the two on this forum alone.

    • I'd be interested if they released a 25th anniversary PS4 like the 20th anniversary which was the best looking IMO.

    • Save money towards buying a PS5, this deal is just throwing money away this late in the game.

This is a limited edition console, but if someone just wants a ps4 you can usually get them near $200 Black Friday. Certainly worth $200 for someone who has yet to jump into current gen, especially with a huge backlog of games that can now be had for cheap. It might be hard for some people to fathom, but many people only jump in towards the end of the lifecycle of a console.

Sell this at 200, people will buy. MS is smart to put the xb1s at around 200.

You mean like a year and a half from now. Its not like its coming out in June.

I do agree with the part I don't have quoted about the full price stuff, but to each their own.

It kind of depends on what kind of gaming the person does too. The gaming price differences aren't that great unless you are buying old titles on a Steam sale. If you are inclined to go with a subscription service, then there are often games to be had with that as well. The games part is mostly a wash, especially if you want to play new releases, but still it does favour the PC.

There peripherals you mention cost $, the upfront cost is FAR higher, and if you save on that, you may need to upgrade within the console lifecycle. The PS4 is nearing the end of its lifecycle, another 1-1/2 to 2 years, so you'd have to ask yourself how much is it worth to you.

Like another user pointed out, a PC is not a one trick pony, but if all you are getting it for is for gaming then essentially they perform most of the same functions at the higher price.
