VIA Rail VIA Rail: One-Way Fare Sale for Train #50 and #51 (Toronto-Ottawa and Toronto-Montreal Routes) One-Way Fare Sale for Train #50 and #51
get this dealDid you miss out on VIA Rail's Facebook sale last week? If you're planning on traveling on the Toronto-Ottawa or Toronto-Montreal route over the next few months, you can still get some nice savings on your tickets.
Right now, VIA Rail is running a sale on tickets for trains #50 and #51. Until April 3, one-way fares for these trains are $39 for Economy Class and $79 for Business class. Regular price is around $77 for Economy and $157 for Business class, so this offer represents a nice savings if you're willing to travel early in the day. Train 50 leaves Toronto at 6:40AM, arrives in Ottawa at 11:24AM then ends in Montreal at 1:39PM.
As usual, tickets must be purchased at least three days prior to departure. The number of seats is limited.

This is a decent deal, I wouldn't say hot but pretty good. I visit Ottawa at least 5-6 times a year. The drive is usually about 5 hours if you stop for breaks etc. However last year I decided to take the VIA from Toronto to Ottawa and let me tell you, it is hell of a lot better than driving. If you can find deals like this, definitely cheaper than paying for your gas, not to mention the traffic, the hassle, the rush hour delays and other idiot drivers on the road. For my money, I'd take the train over driving any day.
Your kids will enjoy the train. The 5 hours go by really fast. The seats are super comfortable. You have wifi access even in the economy class. Very convenient. I'd travel by train to Ottawa/Montreal all the time if the prices were this low.
prices seem much more expensive.
The Toronto -- Ottawa route is not scenic at all, save for a few parts when you pass over bodies of water. I do the Ottawa--Toronto route all the time, nothing to see really.
I don't find the ride that bad, it's 4.5 hours for me to get from downtown Ottawa to Scarborough. I usually bring my laptop, watch a movie, a couple of shows, or read and the ride is over.
Naw, they've been running this deal for a few weeks now. I remember seeing it advertised a while back.
It's a good deal still, if you're willing to take the 6:40am train.

Wow, that's pretty bad with no working washrooms. Having a 3 hour delay is fine, after all, many flights are delayed 5-6 hours at a time. Only difference is the airport provides clean washrooms
