View allMaybe the word is more "intelligent", not necessarily "smarter".
Anyway, I'll introduce them to the legit D&D in a couple of years if they are still interested.
While they are more tech savvy, because they have new tech,
does not mean they are "smarter" or more intelligent.
If they are not into reading and playing by a complex set of rules
then how can they be "smarter"?
Are kids today not smart enough to play real D&D?
Personally, I haven't played D&D in a couple of decades but this is very much a extremely simplified version of the game with very limited scope of decisions making. Basically each round involves moving the players, picking a card then either completing the challenge or beating the monster. Each player has a special ability and 3 fighting options. Each game involves defeating 3 minor bosses and one major boss. The role of DM rotates with each turn and my kids loved that part of the game. They got real kick from reading out the cards and "controlling" the game. Overall, it was lots of fun for my kids but a but limited in my opinion for more grown up players, especially ones that may have prior experience with D&D. I still recommended as a perfect gateway into these type of games for kids.
About this item
Step into the exciting world of D&D with the Dungeon & Dragons Adventure Begins board game for ages 10 and up
This game is a portal to the monsters, magic, and heroes of Dungeons & Dragons. Players work together as they journey through the lands of Neverwinter
Players can choose and customize their hero and backpack, battle iconic D&D monsters, and experience a new adventure every time. So, step forward, brave heroes;adventure awaits
Choose a journey and which Boss your party of heroes will fight in the end. Choose from Felbris (Beholder), Orn (Fire Giant), Deathsleep (Green Dragon) and The Kraken
The game includes 4 mini figures that correspond with the heroes featured in gameplay
Material quality isn't anything special but for the price no issue. I think they will hold up to kids. The figures are definately very low detail but they don't need to be. They are also soft and flexible so they will hold up to any abuse.
We haven't tried it yet, but I can see it being a lighthearted foray into D&D.

Put a bunch of other stuff in my cart to get this game.
Thanks OP!
I'm totally kidding and really want this, just trying to figure out some stuff to buy to get it as an add-on : /
Ordered anyways. Thanks OP
There are enough insanely complicated board games as is, I'm always looking for games that are friendly to kids under 12.
I wouldn't recommend this game unless you are playing with kids under 13, otherwise there are better choices.
Bought this for $25 to play with the kids. It's simple but definitely entertaining. For $10 I would jump on it.
