March 6 update: Tim Hortons has suspended this giveaway amid health concerns over coronavirus. A make-up date will be announced at a later time.1

---

Roll Up the Rim returns to Tim Hortons on March 11, but you can get a head-start on the festivities one day early, because the chain is giving away 1.8 million reusable cups for free on March 10!

Free cups will be available at Tim Hortons restaurants across Canada and no purchase is required -- simply visit your favourite Tim Hortons location on Tuesday, March 10 to claim your free cup! The dishwasher-safe cups are primarily red with the Tim Hortons wordmark across the middle and topped with a white lid.

Plus, you'll be able to put that reusable cup to good use for Roll Up the Rim 2020, because you'll get three digital rolls when you make any hot beverage purchase with a reusable cup throughout the contest!

In line with the giveaway, Tim Hortons is also making a 10-year commitment to become a more environmentally-conscious chain with waste-reducing initiatives including raising awareness for reusable cups, adopting a new strawless cup for cold drinks, phasing out plastic stir sticks and more.

This freebie is available on Tuesday, March 10 only at Tim Hortons restaurants in Canada. Quantities are limited and cups will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis, so save the date and head to Tim Hortons early -- click here to find the location nearest you.

    • Overall the promotion is a downgrade this year - ~$30M in prizes vs $70M last year. But extra entries for reusable cups is interesting.

    • Would love a cup and I want to get in the habit of using it too. Would love to see Tims offer a discounted price on coffee for using.

Disposable cups are terrible for the environment.

They do offer a discount for using reusable cups. I fill my thermos there on occasion and it is lower price. Not too mention they charge me for med size and I get at least as much as their large. Some places piss me off because they actually make a coffee in one of their cups and pour into my thermos. Kinda defeats the purpose, I still get discount, but they are wasting cup for nothing. when asked they say for sanitary reasons...

Probably will find out when we get it. For free, I'd guess so. I'll be sticking with my current stainless thermal mug (but I'll probably go for the freebie anyway, maybe my wife will like it). Which (for some reason) reminds me that I need to clean my mug.

    • Man I feel like good luck to whoever tries. Timmies is way more busy than Starbucks and opens way earlier in most locations and the Starbucks cups run out in the first couple hours of opening

McDonald's gives a discount on disposable cup, sort of -- you get a physical stamp towards a free beverage with a disposable cup but not with a reusable cup.

I was going to say 'how do you figure' but that's pretty close, $36M this year total. Hoping I win the car this year, but who am I kidding. (trying to jinx myself)
