    • Had the festive special but didnt enjoy the stuffing, it was just a blob of mush.
They did allow me to use a free appetizer coupon with the meal which I didnt think they would do.

    • It is if you're doing takeout at Swiss, which is generally what we do. I agree that throwing in a comparison with home-made fries skews it a bit, but overall, if you're talking about value for takeout food, I think Swiss is lagging in the value.

For a non-Costco example, earlier this week we were looking for takeout chicken. Swiss was $40 for a chicken and 4 fries. We normally have no leftovers from that, so it's $40 for one meal, and additionally, there is a 50/50 chance that the chicken we get will be overcooked and\or undersized. We ended up at Popeyes, which cost $10 more for the 12 piece with 2 large fries and 6 biscuits. We all ate well, and we had enough chicken left over for lunch for me and my wife the next day, AND the chicken was hot and fresh with large pieces, with plenty of fries to go around. For the additional $10 I'll take that every time.
You pay for popeyes in the runs the next day though, gotta factor that time/burn in.

    • Thanks for the post. Our family went to Swiss Chalet last weekend and paid just under $80 for family of 4 (incl. tax & tips). So $50 for a family feast sounds tempting.

However, we discussed meal options during the meal as we have to examine alternatives during these inflationary times when price trajectory seems to go nowhere but up. And our family will be staying home this Thanksgiving weekend based on the following estimates :
      • Costco rotisserie chicken - $12
      • Food Basics Pumpkin pie - $9
      • Costco salad - $10
      • Loblaws rolls - $4
      • Frozen fries - $5
Total - $40 (tax incl, no tips)

Thought I share this with RFDers for comparison. I'm sure someone will find even better prices than my estimates above.
If I had a nickel for every time someone commented on a Swiss chalet thread with the dreaded Costco BBQ chicken nonsense….so u save a few bucks. But think of the gas that you used going to all these different stores, or the delivery fees if you ordered the groceries via delivery. we are all aware that you can get these items for cheaper at different stores, but live a little. And food basics pie??? And frozen fries???? YUCK. 🥧🍗

      Happy thanksgiving everyone.

For those on the fence, no shame in it. I’ve had more positive than negative experiences with Swiss chalet over the years.

You got me curious and I checked. Seems like it changed to single Lindt ball with a slice of pie in 2018.

    • When did cosrco chickens turn to 12 bucks its 7.99 in ontario I thought that was nationwide
I should have explained better. I added in the cost of tax + gas to get to/fro Costco to arrive at $12.

Where I live, I walk to Swiss Chalet. But Costco is 10 minutes drive.

    • It’s amazing how they can consistently make this food worse Year after year. Every year I think NO WAY they could cut any more corners or make this any worse but by god they’ve done it again. Incredible
As someone who actually enjoys Swiss Chalet... obviously, you don't, but that's okay... I find this deal better than it used to be, the pie and 1 chocolate is a better deal than when they used to give the 3-5 pack or whatever it was of truffles... everyone has their own opinions and tastes of course.

Thats the only thing I do not enjoy, always switch it to a gravy.

Don't get what you weirdo's like about that sauce, but to each their own ;).

    • Also need a can of Swiss Chalet dipping sauce. They sell it at the grocery store. Hope it isn't out of your way with the cost of gas and whatever your time is worth. Also, frozen fries suck.
      Try these:
I was at a fire department fish fry a while back and the perch was amazing but I was also blown away by the fries. I asked about them and was told they are frozen fries, Cavendish Flavour Crisp Classic straight cut. They have a bit of flour & cornmeal to them. I bought some and cooked them in the air fryer. Not quite as good as being deep fried in oil but still much better than I can make myself.

    • I guess it depends on where you live. Ours is quite nice. We're obviously not talking Michelin star, but it's not counter service and eating out of paper wrappers either. i had the Thanksgiving feast yesterday and quite enjoyed it.
All the Swiss Chalet's around here (Niagara Region - except the one in Port Colborne), are all very nice, sit down, table service, etc. The one in Welland is connected to a Harvey's, but it is separated out for the dining area. You can order through the drive-thru or on the Harvey's side for walk-in. In any case, I admit that I love Swiss Chalet and have been a steady customer since the first one arrived in the area way back when.

Just an aside, but we almost always make the SC sauce at home when we have chicken. We have been buying them in the large container's and stocked up at Costco yesterday. They sell one of THESE for $7. Much better value than the little single packages, and much less waste.

    • Some people like Swiss Chalet, but you can never post anything about it without a bunch of people saying that it's cheaper to buy a chicken from Costco. Well, obviously it's cheaper, we all know that. You don't have to keep saying it. I personally like Swiss Chalet, especially the taste of the chicken skin. I've never found a grocery store chicken that compares. Plus you can enjoy a nice meal out instead of having to endure the hell that is Costco! But, you do what makes you happy.

    • People talking about cooking and cleaning vs resturant experience. So were talking about costco, you can get 2x ENTIRE CHICKENS for 24$ then buy their BIG pie for like $7?? then spend 5$ on any mixed salad of your choosing and 5$ on some wedge fries or go buy frozen.
You buy a stack of paper plates anywhere for 5$ and throw ALL that in a garbage bag to avoid the whole prepwork/cleanup talk.

      $24 + 7 + 5 + 5 = $41
      5$ for stack of plates.

      2 ENTIRE CHICKENS
      1 BIG ASS PIE
      1 random salad of choice
1 Bag or box of fries.
Stack of plates that all go to trash after.

more food than you can eat

If you like Swiss chalet, a cheaper option is their family meal to take home. For $40, you get 4 quarter chicken dinners (2 white, 2 dark) and no need to tip for takeout. Or you can get it as a whole chicken not cutup. It’s about 1/2 the cost of eating at the restaurant. The thanksgiving feast is only $10 more and includes pie, stuffing and cranberry, but the $40 family meal is available all year.

That being said, Swiss is just plain too expensive these days. The regular family meal is $40 for a chicken and 4 fries. I know it's not apples to apples to compare it with eating at home, but compare that to $12 for a Costco "take-out" chicken (which is usually much bigger and juicier) and homemade fries and you're not even up to $15 for the whole thing, and the food is better. When the family meal was $30 we got it fairly often, but $40 for a meal that generally leaves no leftovers and is problematic with quality every time and it just becomes a pass for me.
The website says the CAA offer is not available with other promotions but we have gotten it with the Thanksgiving Feast many times in the past.

To me they're two totally different experiences. Especially when I factor in plating, clean-up, getting the actual food items , etc.
