    • Any good looking female up for a blind date in Montreal ?

sigh suffice to say, no one PM’ed any picture.

      Women, you’re missing out 😄
We could have assembled some serious furniture together.

    • Curious what the gift was in your location? In Ottawa they mentioned you can take the little vase decoration with a rose in it, LOL. Saw some people do that.

$1.99 value but still a cute memento. It now lives in my car.

    • Had a nice time at IKEA Coquitlam. They had an area of the restaurant sectioned off with decorations, live band (two string players + vocalist), tablecloths, and a small gift to take home. The food was better than their usual restaurant - nothing fancy but I'd say somewhere between Swiss Chalet and White Spot, and considering the price, it was good value. It's sit-down with a waiter (and at Coquitlam at least, it seemed like there was a lot of waiters to guests...).

Would do it again. Although we walked through the Marketplace on the way out and ended up buying a mirror so maybe that was their plan all along...

    • I'll report back with a review. Stay tuned

Edit: just walking in, the place looks slick, they decorated everything, table clothes, servers...the whole 9. They have live music (guitar and violin) and actual coat check!

Stay tuned for the next update. I'll keep editing this comment as I go.

Edit 2: Alright folks, here is the short review:

Ambiance: not bad, I know it sounds cheesy because it was Ikea but it was pretty laid back which I actually enjoyed. Some people really did lean into it and showed up in suits and dresses. Awesome to see LOL.

Service: Ottawa location, the staff is awesome, very friendly, but you can tell they are not trained waitstaff. All good, I had no expectations but I had a good time.

Food: I would say one level above the standard meal in terms of presentation and setup. It tasted fine (remember, this is a $35 meal for two!). Courses are served individually as you'd expect. For the starter, we had a soup and a salad which is the same as the regular cafeteria. They served it with a pre-buttered toasted garlic dinner roll which I enjoyed.

The dinner portion was also one step above the basic cafeteria food, but you can obviously tell they reuse some ingredients. We had the salmon and plant balls which we all know. The plant balls came with a butternut squash ravioli tossed in sundried tomatoes and pesto. The salmon was served with potatoes, zucchini, and a small basic salad with a lime vinaigrette. Both were good but I'd give more points to the plant balls simply because it was more different than the standard cafeteria food.

Dessert was dessert, what can I say. Chocolate cake was the same as the one you find in the cafeteria, and it was great. The other thing we got was the D'aim cake, which wasn't a slice, but was rolled up into 3 individual balls and coated in something delicious. It was like crack, really really good. This is not a standard menu item either so it was extra special.

They had a few mocktails which were alright. Nothing special, but definitely elevated the whole experience.

The Ottawa location didn't have a "take home gift" like some other locations (although I am curious what those would be), but they did mention that you can take the little vase with a plastic rose in it, LOL. Nice memento if anything.

Overall, great value, laid back night and pretty chill overall. All the guests were laid back too, couldn't feel any tension or awkwardness. It reminded me a lot of those "community dinners" that some neighbourhood associations host sometimes. Personally I really like that vibe so it was welcome.

I also did not break up, so that's a win :) - would definitely do it again.

I consider it a coffee date! We sat inside and relaxed and talked before all the stress. :)

    • To me this is the perfect date, because the last thing we want on Valentine's Day is to go to a nice and crowded restaurant like millions of other shmucks. We can keep the nice dining for another less crowded day.

Too bad we can't buy the tickets online though. I don't mind driving all the way to IKEA once for the dinner, but having to go there just for tickets is too much.
