    • When I paid $65 for breakfast for three including coffee and tip, I realized that I might not be eating dine in breakfast again until or unless this insanity ends.
I normally go to Sunset Grill and I would they are the most decently priced: $12.99 for 3 eggs, bacon or sausage, home fries, and toast. Compare this to Evviva who charges $20.99 for the exact same thing (and there are people willing to lineup for this)

    • Apart from home, which chain dine-in place provides the max VFM for breakfast? Denny's/Wimpy/Eggsmart/Sunset/any other?
A&W with coupon can be good. Classic breakfast for $7.99. no tip required since you're bussing your own table

    • We've been a few times, quick service and decent food. Prices have increased, but comparable to other places still.

We'd prob stop by for dinner occasionally if they ever decided to increase their hours.

    • They keep increasing their prices. Stopped going. Gonna be like all the hair cutters charging pandemic rates. Consumers will push back.
I don't think they have much choice. Minimum wage has increased nearly 50% in Ontario from 2015 - 2023. This has a domino effect as every employer has to raise prices so general inflation goes up and everything we consume costs more and more. On top of that, many other factors contribute to price increase as the supply/demand curve gets impacted for many other goods/services (eg. housing).

We used to drop by Sunset Grill for brunch every weekend when we go to Costco because the waitresses are friendly, efficient, quick to respond and always keep my cup of coffee topped up. But now we go about once a month as we get Krusteaz and eggs from Costco and make breakfast at home more frequently. Sunset Grill lost business not because they did anything wrong but because prices for everything shot up too much too quickly for people to digest.

If you eat more than 7 pancakes, Denny's promo at their downtown location is techinically a better deal since it's AYCE https://forums.redflagdeals.com/dennys- ... #p38703143

    • I love going for brunch but considering the costs nowadays I find it very hard to justify the price.

Even if you don't buy them on sale, a dozen eggs are $5, a loaf of bread is $4, a pack of bacon is $5. That's $14 for multiple meals, when a comparable meal at a restaurant is $15.

The only thing I'll order at a brunch place is eggs Benedict with hollandaise sauce because it's time consuming to make yourself. I won't ever order an omelette.

That said, $1 a pancake for a good cause is a good deal.

Sadly, the insanity will not end.
Prices for everything is only going 1-way, up.

The only thing that isn't increasing is our Salary. 😈

To be fair, it's not just Sunset Grill. Every restaurant is increasing their prices. Something like a Big Mac combo is slowly inching towards $15 in some parts of Canada. Inflation is a normal thing, but the rate it has happened at in the last three years is the reason we're seeing these price shocks.

    • This gonna be on all day or morning only?
Sunset Grill has very limited hours so when you say "all day" it means till 3pm which is closing which I find somewhat ridiculous with rent's in this city.

Re. pancakes. $1 each and not per order. So if you get 2, it's $2 and 3, it's $3.

Last time I went there for this promo, I think they ran out of mix and they must have mixed a fresh batch so the pancake tasted almost floury because they didn't allow time for the mix to hydrate.

If I was the operator, I might put out a box and see if ppl want to put in extra $ for the charity. Or perhaps write on the receipt, you saved $X - would you like to round up the bill with all proceeds to the charity.

      180 calories of maple syrup = 50 mL = 3.381 tablespoons

So both the tree and customer are getting β€˜tapped’

That's not very Canadian to charge $4.25 for Maple Syrup. Even Aunt Jemima would be shocked.

Just sneak some in. Use it then put it away. But if they catch you worst is they'll say don't bring it next time. It happened to me once.

That sounds like the "real" stuff. If I remember correctly, it's normally like $30 to $40 for a bottle. Not the cheaper Aunt Jemima stuff. I find that the "pure" syrup tastes better but I have no clue what the difference is.

I only see Ontario locations: https://sunsetgrill.ca/pancake-tuesday/

Although when I click the Menu for Alberta it does advertise the $1 pancakes on Feb 13th.

I'm in Calgary and there is one near my place that I've heard good things about. I'll try going over on the the 13th.

      Thanks for posting OP.

    • Why is everybody complaining about $1 pancakes when "A $1.00 contribution will be made to the Canadian Cancer Society from each pancake sold."??

      (3+1)x1.13=4.52.
So unless you pay 15.48 tips, how can it be 20?

I do. Home. It's much much cheaper. I can't digest breakfast costing $65 for eggs, toast or pancakes, coffee, and potatoes. Sorry.
