    • No time machine to go back and get it, but just last week it was selling @ $100 for a pair of them on both BB and Amazon. I'm assuming it doesn't show as $50 being the all-time-low because it was a bundle deal.

    • I own both the show 5 and the show 8. if you plan to use it to listen to music at all and are on the fence about this deal, just wait for a sale on the show 8. the show 5's bass is incomparably weak. the show 5 functions great as a digital picture album.

Why do you say that? I have all echos in my house including 2 of the show 5s but I was thinking of abandoning amazon and switching to google. mostly because I use google photos and nest cams so the integration would be nice. plus google voice recognition is prefect on my phone and the AI is superior.

as for the show 5, I think it sounds fine for the size. much better than the echo dots or google home minis. If anything, I would say it has too much bass compared to the mids and highs so the sound is muffled.

Can you please elaborate on why? I cannot see how that is possible given the lack of youtube, ambient google photos, etc.

After trying both, I disagree with your statement. They have their ups and downs. Alexa has a lot more integration with things, but Google just seems overall better with search, AI and even something as simple as the voice sounding more human.

    • I've got both - and live with both on a daily basis - and whether you feel one is superior is really going to depend on your use case. Yes, the search on Google is much better, and if you're integrating it with your Google Photos account, the Home Hub is a great digital photo frame (the ambient display is impressive).

However, in my experience, if you're all in on "smart home" devices, the Alexa experience is still superior. I've got a mix of everything, from no name smart switches, to Wemo, Hue, Lutron Caseta, Sonos, Harmony Hub, Smartthings, Nest, and more, and for me the Alexa integration generally just works better. I also despise the Google Home app for any type of setup or configuration and find the Alexa app (and web portal) easier for tinkering with your setup.

And finally, I just find saying "Alexa..." much more natural than saying "Hey Google". I don't understand why Google still hasn't allowed you to change the wake word.

    • Can anyone comment on the bundle with the LIFX Wi-fi Smart Bulb for $5 more?
Anyone know which LIFX bulb it is?
It would be a hot deal if you get the LIFX (A19) which sells for $75 on its own.

Yup. Plus a free game was part of the bundle as well.
