    • And just like that, the deal is back. This should be considered the regular price for RFD.

    • Looks like it's missing Assassin's Creed Origins this time.

    • What's the benefit of the newer model with the 256mb cache. Any real world performance difference. Worth the extra $30 or can it be had for the same price with the right sale?

    • Wanted to return the Toshiba 3GB bought on Newegg this morning. Was hit with a 13.50 restocking fee.

Aw well. You win some. you lose some.

Or I can try to sell it back.

Or worst case scenario : My server has now a capacity of 14TB (up from 7TB)

Win a little , lose a lot. And they are forcing you buy their prime member. I will not buy from new egg if they does not have huge difference , even same price , I will buy from others not new egg.

Can't find many reviews on the newer 004 drive. Bought the 005. Think the 005 is a better drive for desktop usage.

    • I bought this drive the other day and installed it today and it's actually 5980 rpm according to crystaldiskinfo. That surprised me. Is crystaldiskinfo always correct?

Well, I started the RMA process, but I thought I could have backed out. But it was too late. And the 4TB was bought. I'll see what I can do when it arrives.

I am not sure if 004 is a SMR drive. What I know for sure is that 004 is 5400rpm with 256mb cache while 005 is 5900rpm with 64mb cache. They both are somewhat slower than the 7200rpm drives in the same series. Also 004 is newer (2017) while 005 is 2016 model.

Similar to this one but for $5 more (and you don't need prime):

      https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX68876

Amazon model is ST4000DM005 and the one on ME is ST4000DM004

      Huge difference.
      05 has 3 disks. 04 has 2
      05 has 64MB cache, 04 has 256MB
      05 has 300,000 Load/unload cycles, 04 has 600,000
