View allShould be possible, I can't see why not. It's particleboard not full of cardboard like the Lack tables or anything, so cutting it should be fine. There is a cutout so the bookshelf can go flat to the wall and bend around your baseboards (if you have the small kind of baseboard), so you might need to cut that slit a little higher as well.
Does anybody have any experience with cutting the bottom of these a bit? the dimensions show 202cm but in my basement where i want to put it, i only have 201cm and am considering cutting 1cm off the bottom.
is this possible? has anybody done this before? will it ruin it?
i would appreciate any feedback.
Thanks

would it be a good idea to use this one as a TV bench?
I picked up some Billy shelves at the Montreal Ikea, there is a lot of people buying it. The only thing difference compare to my old Billy, they use a cheaper peg system. So when you place your shelves, make sure to got the right spot. I worried those things will just rips the holes...

The entire IKEA's model revolves around the self serve, low overhead.
This one seems really good
I recently sold two of the black ones to someone for a low price because I was moving and they didn't work in my new place (built in bookshelves). I had them both for over 5 years with tons of books and they were still in good shape. They needed a good dusting but that was it.
I also gave away an Expedit unit that used to hold all my stereo equipment and several hundred LPs (heavy stuff). The only problem was that it had a slightly peeling veneer on on front corner that was easily fixed with some hot glue.
Just don't disassemble the furniture... If you do not plan on disassembling it, it should hold up fine. Their furniture is prone to chipping due to their bonding and glue, but that's what you pay for.
Overall, IKEA isn't that bad, but if I had a choice, I wouldn't buy from them.
Generally, you can find IKEA stuff all over CL or Kijiji because so many people buy IKEA. I always look to the classifieds if I need something from IKEA.
picked up 2 white ones in Vaughan this afternoon... they had 100+
I have Billy shelves and they have lasted over 10 years and survived 2 moves. My experience with their furniture has been extremely positive.
Yes, it's that "compressed oatmeal" stuff, but as far as compressed oatmeal goes Ikea is king of the hill.
But then again, it's only been a year
I used to have one of this but disposed because of moving, a pretty good value bookshelve at this price point
Talking about quality, I never had problem with IKEA furniture putting it together or later falling apart or peeling off. One has to remember it's a budget furniture, hence understandably lower quality than all wood bookshelf. But much better quality than many North America made furniture.
For the price it's fantastic. Check out billy bookcase hacks as well.
Great to stack DVDs.

That is a good quality bookcase, solid and heavy.
