    • 2 years ago (when it was the beginning of the pandemic and we were all trying to figure out wfh stations) I would've taken the Herman miller because I did not know better. 2 years later however, yep, I would keep the one I have over the Herman Miller. In office they use herman millers (aerons), and I always prefer to wfh in the Pro mesh from the source... I realized I prefer thick foam for the base of the chair instead of mesh. So yeah, I'm 100% picking the chair I have over the herman millers if I had to choose between the two now.
      When you say thick foam instead of mesh, did you choose fabric or leather when selecting the seat type on the coolmesh pro? Would the thick foam be the same in both?

      What are these "better" options that are 1/2 the price besides the Source chair you linked to? I am glad you found your $349 chair to be better than the Embody. That does not however mean it's some gospel truth. You can't deny the universal acclaim for the Embody.

      But things are not needed, period. If you distil needs to necessities for survival, most stuff you consume is not needed.
      I just find it funny how some people like to judge how others spend their money, and they have this false sense of accomplishment because they are "wiser" in how they spend money.

    • Herman Miller Aeron chairs are pure garbage. Most uncomfortable and overpriced chair I've ever sat on.
      I've sat on one for work for 6 years. It's pretty good for me, not the most comfortable chair in existence but it's decent. The main benefit is that they last for ages because they're all hard-wearing materials. Nylon mesh, hard plastic and steel. You can buy a 10 year old one and it'll still last another 10+ years.

      AndaSeat doesn't belong in this conversation, they make cheap consumer-grade chairs not commerical-grade like Herman Miller.

    • I would suggest to stay the hell away from AndaSeat (i have the gaming chair). Since i work from home , i use the chair 8-9 hours a day. In about 8 months bonded leather started falling apart. They do not cover the bonded leather issue. before you spend $500-$600 on Anda seat think about it twice. Just my 2 cents.

    • Yep, I think the Aeron's are highly highly overrated. They are hyped up by social media influencers and people who are paid by Herman Miller. The amount of herman miller's I see on the secondary market in the area I live is pretty astounding, if they were as amazing as they are, why are so many people regretting purchasing them 😐
      to be fair herman miller has had a pretty big following even before social media was a thing. also most of the ones that come up on secondary are from office closeouts, because aerons are common chairs to have in meeting/board rooms, and in some balling offices just as desk chairs. i do agree that regular chairs have come a long way though for like $200, however none of them are nearly as good, they're just usually good enough. i'd like to see a more robust $500-800 chair market that actually has high end chairs that rival the aeron, but unfortunately i'm not really seeing it now. it's either buy a $200 mesh back chair with way less features, a faux leather $500 chair that looks like shit in 5 years, or get a $1000+ high end office chair like a herman miller or steelcase.

    • I bought a used Aeron from Track Office Furniture in Markham. No regrets and saved a lot. I wish I could afford the new ones, by the time this one gives, I’m going brand new.
      I was leaning that way but they were out of size C’s so I just bit the bullet and went to RFD group buy.

    • As a larger gent, Aeron size C is a must. As someone with big quads / hammies, the evil plastic front doesn’t really bother me.

      This was probably in mid-2020? I learned about it from a post here and jumped on it. They had multiple units: Logitech-branded Embody, non-gaming Embody, Aerons in multiple sizes... from what I remember, everything was BNIB with tags (mine certainly was).

      AuctionMaxxxxxxx is a jobber. They buy mixed-lots of goods from bankruptcies etc. Their assortment changes all the time, depending on the opportunities they get. You certainly can't bank on them as a seller, but they could very well put up a whole container-load of HM chairs for sale this afternoon. I guess I got lucky?

      Currently sitting on a very old used Leap V2...
      Why don't you give AndaSeat a try? I own the Kaiser, Dark Knight and buying the Fnatic... there chairs are built like a tank and offer a 6 warranty on the seat and lifetime for parts. I have major nerve damage and these seats are one of the few things I can get comfortable in. Excellent chairs... throw some roller blade wheels on them and they are even more amazing. You could by 2 of these when compared to the above chair and has a sale atm.

    • I was about to pull the trigger on the embody for 1500 dollars but went to try the Steelcase gesture. I'm pretty sold on it.
      When I went to the website to order, the price jumped from 1500 to 18xx. I don't know what happened...
      I will have to go back to the store to ask the salesperson.

      WFH is a joy now, and back/hip pain is virtually nonexistant (except when I have to actually work in the office and sit on a not-HermanMiller chair).

      If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.
      Is that maxx.ca?

      A garage sale of all places LOL. I was surprised the guy was selling off all his stuff which was all high end. Then found out his company moves him around (he's a developer) and they give him an allowance to get all new stuff everytime.

    • Bought two pre-owned HM chairs a year ago at around 500 each for my husband and me. Both of us feel satisfied with them. You won't feel great with a chair, but the difference is even if you sit there a long time, your back won't hurt. That makes a huge difference for us. Would definitely recommend it. If you have a limit budget, go searching pre-owned ones. There are lots of them on FB market.

      Got the Embody for $800(!) and it was only used like 3 months. Also got the Aeron for like $200 from an office clearance, that I should be able to sell for $400ish. So all in all $600 for the upgrade made it worthwhile to me. But I would never spend retail on an Embody straight up.

      These are buy it for life type products with warranties to match. If you can find it 2nd hand it’s the best deal you’ll get.

For those who are on a budget and can’t buy around these times, the group buy pricing is always available year round similarly to these Herman Miller holiday discounts if not even higher discounts, albeit for the regular Aeron and Embody models, no gaming versions unfortunately.

      That’s the risk with used. I doubt the warranty is transferable, most of these sellers are re-selling office furniture. I’d just ask for videos of the chair and inspect in person.

    • Just in case anyone is interested, I ended up buying a Herman Miller Aeron on Facebook marketplace used for $600. There were lots of sellers with delivery. Good option to save money if you don’t mind a used product.

      It is something that I want to buy, but definitely want to experience first before dropping cash on them.
      There are places that sell used chairs where they have all sorts of different chairs to try as well. I went to Track Office Furniture in Richmond Hill and they have chairs from Herman Miller, Steelcase, Haworth and more. Was great to try many different chairs.

    • I sold my Leap V2 for peanuts after I tried and bought an Embody. The Embody is better in all the important factors. The Leap has a super thin cushion that and mediocre back flexibility, but has better arm rests and doesn't creak. The Embody is just built better and more durable, the seat is a night and day difference.
      Thanks for sharing your input. I guess everyone's experience is different because we all have different builds. For me, the Embody gets pretty hot and wasn't comfortable after a long seating. Before trying it, it was the "holy grail" chair for me because I don't mind spending money on something that I use every day.

      By the way, have you tried the Gesture? I have sat on it but didn't get to sit on it for long to properly test it out.

      I tried all the top-tier chairs, e.g. Leap V2, Aeron, Embody etc and I like Leap V2 the most.
      I would not trade my Leap V2 for the Embody.

      Tried the Aeron and didn't like it, wasn't for me. Also tried the Leap v2, not as great as I hoped.

      The Mirra and the Gesture fit me better, was a tough decision but went with a Mirra.

      Although you don't get the warranty, I would recommend looking at used if you don't want to pay full retail for a new chair.
      Nah, their Logitech Gaming Chair is actually pretty good. It's basically an upgraded Embody, though some people may not like the back rest cushion due to the new grooves on it.

Additionally, if you haven't tried an herman miller, don't expect it to just be amazing because it's expensive, I'm above 6 ft, and the size C is still okay, it's not like it changed my life. I currently sit on a "Source Cool mesh pro" and it's way better than any herman miller I've tried. This is more of a PSA now....buy herman miller if you really need it, not just because you want to flex lol. There are PLENTY of better options that are more than 1/2 the price cheaper.

      EDIT: More like 99% of the people on RFD lol.

      I also wear shorts at home (wfh) and worried about the fabric seating and how comfortable and durable it will be long term.
      I went through the same thing. You can only test how comfortable a chair is at home, for my needs 10+hours/day. I Bought Steelcase Leap, wasn't comfortable, sold it and bought Gesture, wasn't comfortable, sold it. Then I bought the Embody, it wasn't comfortable sitting for 10+hours a day. Sold it, and bought the Aeron. It's comfortable, but after a few hours you still have to stretch/walk. If you don't, the comfort declines around 5-6 hours.

      If it's any consolation, my friend is a bigger guy and has no issue with the Embody fabric seating. YMMV.
