View allWhat I or possibly many office workers had to endure before COVID having to be sent downtown. WFH did not exist yet. Truly barbaric times imo.
But there were good memories and one was taking deep cool breaths and a short walk during break to McDs for that $1 hot coffee. Might not get as often now but keep it up McDonald’s
I really hope it is not in app only, not when they display it on their menu board advertising it for $1...
So I ordered coffee, brought my own mug, got charged $1.92, so to get the $1 coffee, I have to order through the app it seems.
i think that each mcdonald has to change that on their own, since i saw mine charging less for latte and cappucino, also 1$ instead of 2$.
if they forget to change, buying at the kiosk or in person should be 1$ unless the mcd does not participate the promotion.

This is a cop-out from McD's to say they stopped refills because of COVID-19. Understandable at the start of the pandemic. Today, COVID-19 is still an ongoing concern, but there are ways to work around refills. Buy some ceramic mugs from a dollar store or something and do what Starbucks does when it comes to refills. That way the employees will know which cups are new and which ones are refills. If McD's was so concerned about COVID-19, all their employees should be wearing gloves and face masks, but none of them do. So there's clearly a disconnect between what corporate says and what's happening on the ground.
McD's used to be the best value when it comes to coffee. First, their coffee quality has gone up. Second, their pricing is reasonable since they also come with a free refill (on the same visit). Third, they have a coffee loyalty program. I'm not so sure about them anymore with the ending of free refills and coffee sticker program.
It was a massive Gong Show (S*** Show) in Vancouver when McD's was giving away a free coffee, but there was a new city by-law that came into effect to stipulate every retailer must charge for any takeout packaging including single-use cups. There was no way to get around this system and requirement the way their cash registers were programmed. A street person isn't going to have any money to pay for that coffee cup and defeats the purpose of the free coffee campaign. So it completely screwed up McD's free coffee campaign as "fake charity" to the community, but it was actually a government caused problem. Someone at city hall didn't think this through before rushing headlong into it, thinking this is good for public image and will garner more votes.
Being green isn't easy as they would say.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
But you are right, loved to go in with my tablet & get as many refills as I (& my bladder) could handle!
I should know, I'm sitting in McDs now after having bought an XL!
I will try it this later today when I go to get my $1 coffee.
Road and Sheppard in north York and told NO FREE REFILLS. Ended with Covid.
Mc app also has a free coffee offer for today 11/7
1. You need to have time. If you're on the run McD usually more cost efficient.
2. Bring your own cup = 10 cents off. McD might do this too but not as prevalent.
3. Pour-over can be asked for, and your coffee will be fresh.
4. If you have time and the Starbucks Card/App, consider getting a short hot coffee. After that, if you stay you can get whatever unlimited cups of whatever size hot or iced coffee etc, for a very low outlay of approx $2 in Ontario.
5. Collect stars. Sometimes if you buy something (e.g. a cheesestick, a scone, a coffee) x number of times you accumulate. Then use the 50 stars for a Venti traditional Cafe Misto customized to the gills (see Starbucks threads).
6. Keep eyes out for gift card promotions. Fallback is buying these in grocery stores and using a strong credit card (Amex Cobalt etc).
Back to McDonald's, if you're only doing the one cup, and want to have a reasonable assurance of consistency it's not bad for $1. Same per line 6 above for gift cards etc, and senior's coffee.
I used all my sticker cards during the Monopoly promotion for a bit of extra rewards.
0.02 over.
Anyways, thanks for the heads-up. I still have those coffee cards I need to use up.

I'm not finicky about reposts, I know others are more sensitive to the thought.
I appreciate the reminder about this deal.
