Some forum members have had mixed experiences when trying to purchase a tablet without a Rogers plan. Although the prices are listed as outright, some were only able to purchase one with a tablet plan at $10.00 per month, while others were able to purchase one without.

View allContacted Rogers via live chat a couple of days ago, made it clear that I want to buy it no-term and that I do not have an account with Rogers. The agent said no problem, we will setup an account and then purchase the tablet; but in order to have a Rogers account it is mandatory to have a credit check. I said I'm paying for it in full and not financing or asking for credit, I do not want an unnecessary credit check, just a simple purchase. He said his systems do not allow him to proceed otherwise.
signed up with the agent, I can cancel the tablet plan anytime, since there is no contract. it is still a good deal even with the $35 activation fee
I had the same situation with laval store, & place vertu (Montreal). And both manager are refusing to sell the ipad with no terms.
Yes, this is a freaking joke. Rogers (on the Phone) has no control on their stores.
And the only way to get the iPad 6gen 128Gb for 469$+tx is by phone + a data plan for 10$/month. + 35$ activation fees
I called the OPC, CTCS, CRTC & Competition Bureau Canada all of them can do nothing since no contract was signed.
the only possibility is with OPC to fill a complain for misleading advertising...
what a joke !
Retentions rep confirmed no activation fee, and also gave me a $75 credit on the iPad. So basically I paid $394 for a 128 Gb iPad with LTE. I’m pretty happy!
I can't tell if they've changed the fine print. Was anyone able to cancel the data plan after the first month?
Thanks to everyone for the advice and feedback.
EDIT: The agent in the store added the plan as 2GB/$15 so I contacted support via chat to get it corrected and they gave me grief about how I needed to go back and argue with the store manager and get them to fix it. I said no way in hell was I doing that. They also referred to earlier chat transcripts where I was told by an agent that I wouldn't be allowed to add another data-only line to my account. In the end they said that since the new line was set up and they weren't going to cancel it they would adjust the plan to 3 GB.
On Friday I went to a Fido store (Hillcrest) and they were perfectly willing to give me the iPad offer, but were out of the 128GB model. Wireless Wave was also fine giving it to me, but the only 128 in the GTA was at a Costco.
So Costco today I got it for $20 (weird) and received $75 in gift cards, which I wasn’t expecting. Just had to pay the $60 or so tax. Plus the monthly $34.54 for two years. Oh, and the $30 activation charge (sigh).
"6:45 PM Agent: Are you aware that the policy regarding having a data only plans has changed?"
"6:45 PM Agent: Now, we require the customer to have a cellular line to be eligible for data only plans."
"6:46 PM Agent: You will have to have a cellular line to get additional data only lines."
I asked about signing up one of my existing data only lines for a new 2-year term to get the deal:
"6:47 PM Agent: I understand, the data only lines can not be upgraded. It will be treated as a new line."
I mentioned that I have a data only plan from Bell and they offered me the deal you mentioned and that it didn't make sense to stay with Fido if they couldn't match:
"6:48 PM Agent: We respect your decision. But once again, I can only offer you what is available and what I have in the system."
So... what is the secret to this? I am happy to sign up on a 2-year term and buy the iPad outright for $469. I'd even be fine with $15/3GB per month since that's what one of my lines is already costing me. I can't get anyone to offer me that, however.
$14.54 x 24 or $349
$19.54 x 24 or $469
on a side note, anyone managed to get this in store?
They said they couldn’t match the price for the plan, but they could match the credit. So I just took it
Too many messages for me to sort through but is there something I'm missing? Why is this moved to expired deals?
$15/3GB
50% off loyalty discount for 24 month.
iPad 6th 128 $479+HST
$100 credit on bill
$0 activation fee
Is that good enough?
At the end of the day, this was too much of a hassle for me, just picked up a brand new one from Apple store for student discount.
I just got an email showing I got a credit for $30 presumably to cover the activation fee and another one for $138.87 not really sure what that one is. I did mention for all the trouble I've gone through I should get a free apple pencil or at least a very good discount on one. Maybe that's what it's for...
Anyone know if I can go into a store and pick up an apple pencil and have it charged to my account?
Ps the deal is still showing on the website as of now. Oh also I can't seem to remove the add-on on my account. It shows up on my overview, but when i go to manage add-ons is not there.
