I put an SSD into my PS4 and it didn't feel like it changed load times noticeably. Might make a difference copying games from disk. I believe that the drive that comes with the PS4 is a hybrid SSD/HDD drive

    • How does this compare to the 840 Pro? I filled up my 120GB drive and need more space. I believe the 860 EVO is faster?

Edit: Best Buy has it for $150. Price match at Best Buy for additional savings!

840 pro was MLC 860 Evo is TLC

MLC of 840 pro vs TLC

Once you are in the league that the 860 evo is, speed differences between SSDs become irrelevant.
The bottle neck is the SATA interface which is saturated.
You won't notice any difference in real life usage.

Great SSD, great price, 5 year warranty.
It's the beginning of the Boxing Day SSD pricing.

I'm not worried about the durability of MLC vs TLC as after this drive, I'm probably going to do a new build in a few years with Ryzen 3. I'm still running a Core i5 3570K system with a AMD 7950 GPU lol. I just need more space to run more games off the SSD instead of HDD. If speed is the same or faster, I'm buying.

The writes will be faster for sure. I remember my 840 PRO 128gb topping out at 300 mb /s. This one can do 500 easy

    • I just checked.. Best Buy has the Samsung 860 EVO 1TB for $310. If we price beat Canada Computers, that means you can get it for $167 + tax!

It isn't, not in the launch, updated PSU, Slim, Pro, nor the updated PSU Pro model in the RDR2 bundle.

I put an SSD in the latter, too, and while it is snappier than the stock drive, the only benefit over an SSHD is having that load-time boost over all games, instead of just a couple of titles. If you're the type of player who focuses on one to three games at a time, there's no practical advantage over an SSHD, like the Firecuda that's always on sale for BF/BD.

Assuming you can get them to honor it. Plenty of horror stories in RFDs regarding Samsung's warranties.

Naaaah! They just don't know where to buy, where NOT to buy and what's the right phone number/email address to contact in case of a very unlikely warranty claim.

As an alternative then, buy the Crucial MX500 500 MB for $95 at Amzon.ca

Or the Crucial MX500 1 TB for $175 at Amzon.ca

Just as good of a SSD also with 5 years warranty.

Good luck! They're gonna love you to try to do this on the 24th... to save ten bucks!

Try to pick the longest line with the most crying kids if you can. 😂

OK do want that one but for like 160

Stay tuned! $159.99 would be a reasonable possibility for Boxing Day. Maybe at Mike' s Computer Shop or Staples, Who knows?
