    • From the Lenovo app, I'm getting an error when trying to connect to Alexa saying something about needing a newer version.

Anyways, I figured out the Smart Life setup and have uninstalled the Lenovo app.

I went with the Smart Life app from Volcano Technology Limited over the Tuya Smart app as the Smart Life had more downloads, 10M vs 5M. I installed the Tuya app and it looked pretty similar to the Smart Life. Not really sure which one is actually better.
      They are the same app.

    • Pretty cool. Is there a way to not have to say "ok google," and just " ________ light on"?
You probably don't want that because you could trigger the lights on or off just through casual conversation. If you don't like "OK Google" you can use "Hey Google" or even "Hey Gargle," "Hey Gooble," etc. (Google's recognition of "google" is fairly broad.)

[Or you can say "Alexa" assuming you have an Alexa device in earshot. ;)]

    • The Lenovo app doesn't seem to integrate with any of the home automations like Alexa or Google Home which is another reason not to use it.
Works fine with Smart Life/TUYA. What do you mean the Lenovo app doesn't integrate with Google Home or Alexa? I was able to link the app with google home with no issues and use it via voice commands and routines triggered by other Home devices.

    • Any tips on setting up these Lenovo LED strips using the Smart Life app? I see a lot devices listed in the Smart App, which one should I choose to setup with?
I had to add it from a list of device types and specific devices. IIRC device type was something like Lights.
I've currently got a strip setup on the Lenovo Link Pro app as per the instructions that came with the strips. The Lenovo app hasn't been updated since Aug 27,2021 - so I kind of would like to uninstall and go with just the Smart Life app. The Lenovo app doesn't seem to integrate with any of the home automations like Alexa or Google Home which is another reason not to use it.
Once added to Smart Life, tap Me at the bottom right of the home page. That will let you link to "Third Party Services" including Google and Alexa. I've given authorization for both of those apps so I can control the strip using either one.

Hold the button on the light strip adaptor until it starts flashing quickly. In the Smart Life app, choose Strip Lights (wifi). The app should guide you through the rest.

    • For people who have their own Home Assistant setup, and want local control of these strips, can use Tuya Cloudcutter to detach the lights from Tuya cloud and flash latest OpenBeken firmware.
I stripped open one of the controller boxes and confirmed that these strips have WB3S chips. No soldering required to flash.

Nice - I was too lazy to try it as I don't have a linux install that has a wireless nic. Glad to see it works.

    • Did not read the whole thread, are these RGBIC ? and what is the voltage input at the led strip itself?
      No. These are RGBW. 12V.

    • Looks like the 2M is out of stock at Lenovo - seems to be on eBay though. I got the 5M and flashed custom firmware on it without much trouble.
You just need an UART module (ftdi is what I used) and some soldering: Instructions

    • I don't know if it works on the old chromecast, i am talking about the newest chromecast with google tv (white puck). It also has to be on a TV that has HDMI CEC enabled.
I have a Sony android TV connected to google home, tried setting up a starter routine but the lightstrip will only turn on/off with the "Volume between" option. I tried the "Turns on or off" option to trigger the lightstrip but they do not turn on/off when the TV turns on/off. Anyone else have the same problem?

    • Anyone knows how I can link these lights strip to an motion sensor?
Use an automation hub (Home Assistant), once motion is detected, you can use the hub to trigger the lights

Anyone know if these can be used outdoors?

    • As a FYI with anyone using a chromecast with google tv (and uses it to control the TV via HDMI CEC), you can make the lights turn on and off with the TV by setting a routine in google home. It can also be integrated with XBOX devices (if you have your XBOX connected to google assistant)

    • Does any one have trouble signing up for the Lenovo Link Pro app? It won't send out the verification code via my cell number. Doesn't even let you choose Canada as the country under phone sign up. Same with email signup, it asks for a verification code from your phone but my number doesn't do anything in the app.

The Smart Life app works as well. I used that instead of the Lenovo app.
Tuya (Smart Life app) also has a cloud developer platform which enabled me to control these Lenovo strips using Home Assistant running on my Raspberry Pi. First time I've really used my Pi for something, took about 1.5 hours of tinkering.

I can now turn on/off/dim my bedroom lights and and Lenovo strips as "one", fun!

    • Can you get the colour to a soft white light?
I bought a couple of LED light strips before and the only white option was the stark daytime almost blueish light and the yellow was distinctly yellow. I would prefer a warm white colour for behind a cabinet..

You mounted the powerbar to the back of the TV? so you got only 1 cord instead of having multiple cords leaving the TV? Such a great and simple idea.

Trying to decide if I get this or one of those light bars that mount on the top of a monitor that also have RGB on the back towards the wall. Slightly different use case, but I'm kind of wanting to use backlight and front light when I do work at the table,
