View allI’ve noticed the desktop (SDR) turns dimmer when I play a game that has HDR. Like the desktop is now 60% of the brightness of when I initially booted up the computer. You notice it when you alt tab out of a game. The big problem is sometimes y it gets stuck at this dimmer setting even when you close the game. To fix it you have to restart the pc or go into windows display properties, HDR settings, adjusted the sdr brightness slider back and forth and apply.
these alienwares look really nice though
have been thinking to upgrade. but im mostly using my monitor for productivity i dont game much anymore maybe 3-5hrs a week

I'm running Win11, which has much better HDR support than Win10, and makes it dead easy to setup. Install the driver from Dell's site. Set the monitor to TrueBlack. Turn HDR and auto-HDR on in Windows. Run the Windows HDR calibration app, settings are usually 0, 510, 510, and whatever saturation looks best to you (I settled at 40%). Set SDR brightness to whatever looks best (I'm at 10-20). Leave HDR on all the time.
That's it. Done. No need to complicate it any further than that.
Looks amazing out of the box. I tried following a setup guide I found on reddit and it feels worse lol.
I don’t see any issues with the font clarity. Looks pretty darn good to me. My old wallpaper looked awful though, so I put a nice dark uwqhd on and it looks amazing now.
Don’t forget to set your windows theme to dark, browser theme to dark, and auto hide your task bar.
I did some quick reddit research, someone suggested downloading the HEVC Video Extension offered by Microsoft for $1......that fixed everything....desktop Netflix is finally showing HDR with 3840x2160 video streaming. Can't believe I was watching 1080p Netflix this whole time, even though I knew the quality was clearly subpar.
Complained to Dell, online and by phone. They said they will be in touch with me to talk about compensation once their logistics team provides an update on where the monitor is. Will be asking for a fat discount that's for sure!
Avoid using HDR in anything that does not directly support HDR, if you turn it on in Windows 10/11 all the time your videos are going to look like absolute garbage (colour banding/gradient), if you have something that uses HDR just press (Win + Alt + B) to enable it then Win + Alt + B again when you are done.
if you have issues with text just use MacType or BetterClearTypeTuner
I haven't used the panel too much yet, but already had panel health at yellow which means a pixel refresh already twice. Now I have a habit of just turning off the monitor instead of just going to sleep. There are certainly more caveats to using this panel to try and minimize burn in. While Dell may offer a 3 year warranty for this, I really don't want to cash in when I have a perfect panel with no dead or stuck pixels. A quiet fan to boot. Who knows what refurb unit I would get back in it's place.
Mine was ordered the 26th, was picked up by Purolator on the 5th, and has had no updates since. I have no idea where it is, or when it will arrive. I'm concerned its been lost or something, as others who ordered after me have already received theirs.
Admittedly I wouldn't buy this monitor just for office work, but incredible for gaming!
Mine still says Jan 5th and no updates at Purolator since Dec 28th (label printed).
Dell support said yesterday morning they will follow up in 24hrs and still haven't heard anything.
Traveling next week, not gonna be too happy if they drop this thing at my door haha. Gonna work on getting a nice discount from them for the delays.
The text clarity and fringing, that comes down to the individual really. Some are more susceptible to it than others. Going through all panel tech I find nothing disturbing by it. You get used to it after a while. Still miles ahead of TN panels, IPS glow, or light leakage on the edges of VA. The one more thing I like is black on white text scrolling. Not the disturbing mess you get when scrolling on VA panels.
Going to do some gaming on it now. Hopefully I will start to love it more to justify the cost lol!
After some brief testing I have to say the reported text clarity and colour fringing issue is blown out of proportion. At a normal viewing distance it's extremely hard to tell. Overall a beautiful display.
Playing around it with it and have my Monoprice MVA 144Hz ultrawide 3440x1440p on the side with the image mirrored to compare. So far I do love the blacks with no backlight bleed. The contrast is amazing. However, its not a panty wetter for me yet. I like it but I need more justification, to which is HDR next. Yes I know the problems with HDR 1000. Still going to compare side by side regardless as the Monoprice has HDR 400 (Hah! with edge lighting). I will say the Monoprice is brighter, something I will have to get used to.
Oh and just for those wondering. No stuck or dead pixels. And no noise coming from the fan or whine some have experienced.
I also received an $80 credit. I just kindly asked if it was possible to get a credit or discount. The CSR asked for the reason and I said it was taking longer than I expected to be delivered.
This is a great deal. $1299 - 10% coupon and 15% cash back, plus $80 credit.
Support gave me $80 back for the delay.
