View allPlaced order June 11. Contacted ebates a week later and received a response on June 20 telling me they've contacted Dell but it can take between 10 to 60 business days.
Still haven't heard anything and without the ebates this is a luke warm deal.. I only got the 10% student discount.
Thank you.
keyboard is not as good as the Lenovo y720. Keys are small and shallow, less feed back. Decent enough to type out emails and game tho. thinner than y720. screen is better too. the CPU runs 4k 6-fps with ease. I was dropping frames on the y720 with the 7th gen i7 and full 1060.

What do you think of the possibility of Canadians getting it from about $1300cdn in the next 4 months?
To each their own.
The Dell is a great machine for portable gaming, but it's not the best value for money as a dedicated workstation.
I have a Lenovo ultrabook for the road, far more practical. Meanwhile, for VMs and number crunching, I'm just going to build a Ryzen desktop with a GTX 1080 for CUDA applications (and off-hours gaming).
Still waiting for mine. They said up to 5 business days so I would get it today or tomorrow.
It's proving a better value proposition to build a desktop from parts now that mining is passe.
I'll have to evaluate the build quality of this when I get it to see if it's robust enough to last 5 years.
Touchpad not great...fan gets real loud. Hinge appears weak, almost sure it is not going to last for 3-5 years. I feel laptop is a touch slow even with ssd (probably with all the crap dell installed).

Original Post Deal:
i7-8750H Processor
gtx 1060 6gb max q
16gb ddr4 ram
128gb ssd + 1 tb hdd
15.6" 1080p screen
$1549.99
Best alternative?:
i7-8750H Processor
gtx 1060 6gb max q
8gb ddr4 ram
256 gb ssd
15.6" 1080p screen
$1599.99
I couldn't find anything somewhat close to that price range for the same performance, unless paying $150 more on top of option 2 for 16gb ram and 128gb ssd + 1 tb hdd is worth it.. Which is option 1 but at regular price lol.

i5-8300H
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1050 Ti
$50 more for 256 gb SSD
I read that i7 version throttles under load so i5 performance isn't that far off.
With Unidays and 10% ebates, can get it down to less than $1000 before tax. Even less if you can score an EPP code.
Anyone know if this is PCIE SSD or SATA? What about the screen, how bright is it?
There's a youtube on how to upgrade the screen to 120hz if you buy a panel from ebay. I think it's about $200 all in and takes 10 minutes to install. The guy did it live. You lose the ability to adjust brightness but the new screen is 120hz and it has 300nit brightness.
No one knows the difference between this and the G7. AFAIK, it's only the case that looks fancier on the G7. The guy will do a comparison video next.
That reviewer got about 6 hours battery time.
screen is 62% rgb coverage.
Remember what we talked about before, different strokes for different folks. The G5 is a laptop on steroids, with all the pluses and minuses that come with it.
