    • It's actually called the Surface Laptop 2. Surface 2 is a whole other different (and underwhelming) product from 2013.

    • Great deal, for this device anyway. This is way better value than the MacBook Air.

Hard to keep track these days with all their different products with similar names. From Wikipedia:

The Surface family features six main lines of devices:

The Surface line of hybrid tablets, with optional detachable keyboard accessories, and optional stylus pen. The latest model, the Surface Go, uses an Intel Pentium Gold 4415Y SoC processor.
The Surface Pro line of professional hybrid tablets, with similar, optional detachable keyboard accessories and optional stylus pen. The latest model, the Surface Pro 6, has an 8th generation Intel Core series processor.
The Surface Laptop, a notebook with a 13.5-inch touchscreen. The device runs Windows 10 S by default; however, it can be upgraded to Windows 10 Pro.
The Surface Book, a notebook with a detachable tablet screen. The base is configurable with or without discrete graphics and an independently operable tablet screen, on which the optional stylus pen functions. The stylus pen is sold separately from the latest Surface Book model.
The Surface Studio, a 28-inch all-in-one desktop that adjusts into a digital drafting table with stylus and on-screen Surface Dial support.
The Surface Hub, a touch screen interactive whiteboard designed for collaboration.

Seems a lot less complicated than figuring out what some random letter or number means in the ASUS UX49509-D or whatever.

256GB vs 128GB... Some people might actually need the extra storage... Not microSD expansion, cloud drive or other workaround solution. I believe these devices are not hw upgradeable..

128gb is way too low for a laptop. Heck, my smartphone has 128gb internal and 256gb SD card. :p

    • Theres a bunch of Asus models with same or better specs for $300 less and most are even lighter. Great build as well. Id take a look at those before pulling the trigger on this.

They’re nice machines, but I’ve only ever seen them with the French keyboards. I think you could get an X1 Carbon for this when it’s on sale again, probably around Boxing Day.

Normal specs don't capture things like screen quality or the quality of the keyboard, though. For some people, those are very important for a daily driver.

      Dishonest simplification.

Difference between the macbook & macbook air is slim, with a big price difference. Macbook weighs less than a macbook air? Which is the ultrabook again?
Macbook pro 13" & 15" touch bar. 13" is older version? But it has an 8th generation i5 option? So it is old...or a budget macbook pro? But it's $2400?
The higher end macbook air is the same price as the low end macbook pro? The high end macbook is the same price as the mid level macbook pro?

      iMac 21.5"...1080p version.
      iMac 21.5"...4k version.
      iMac 27"... 5k version.
      iMac Pro
      Mac mini
      Mac pro

Apple's product line is a complete mess. Don't even get me started on the iPhone line. Hook a generator up to Steve Job's spinning corpse to power the US electrical grid.
