View allThe WD120EDAZ-11F3RA0 (helium drive) that I run, is almost inaudible. My 120mm FDB (quiet) fans are actually louder.
I plan on using in a nas in my living room so noise level is extremely important.
-Thanks.
But to summarize
- 5400 rpm drives create less heat so are more reliable
- 5400 rpm drive is 150 mb/s which is still faster than gigabit network in most NASs
- generally cheaper, so more storage for your money
Both easy to shuck, both were put in my Synology without modifications. Cant tell the difference between the two so really cant recommend one over the other. Sorry, cant remember which 12TB I got.
Would you recommend one over the other ( WD vs Seagate) ? Which one was easier to shuck? Were you able to use them directly without modifications?
Also which 12TB have you got? It is weird that there is 2 similar product with not much differences. I don’t know if one is better than the other?
Thanks!
Does someone bought or know both to compare them in real world use? Does the WD 5400rpm performance loss is noticeable? Any advices of other?
Thanks!

Purchased 3 of these from BestBuy, and shucked them to use in my Synology NAS.
I can confirm they ran fine and were recognized both in my PC, and the NAS, without any modifications.
The drives I got are all WD120EDAZ-11F3RA0.
They seem to be PMR/CMR helium filled drives.
TLER is supported, but disabled. Enabling it only lasts until reboot - but this can be remedied with a script to enable it on startup.
