View allEver since I first got a macbook, I can not see myself using a windows based PC for a portable solution. However, my desktop must be a windows based PC.
For some reason I prefer macs for laptops and windows PCs for desktop home use. I think having both perfectly compliment each other. I guess when I want to play I use my MBA, but when I want to get work done, I use my windows based PC. That's just me.
Macbook Air lack DVI and HDMI port..
I think most people here know the pros and cons of the Macbook Air and just looking for best prices.
I just got a new one today (my first Mac since my PowerPC 6100 running System 7!), so I have huge learning curve. I got it at the Apple Store and they applied my work's EPP Pricing which broiugh the price down a little over $100. Mind you, I got the loaded 13" i7/512/8GB model...
MacBook Air lacks a disc drive and an ethernet port
MacBook Pro lacks an ethernet port
MacBook Retina lacks a disc drive as well
Things to keep in mind!
When I did Win 7 on Bootcamp I only had 60gb remaining on my HD and it still worked out fine.

That being said I would go for the new Airs with the better battery life.

I agree, I used to work for Apple and that is completely opposite of how we were trained when it comes to repeat repairs and customer service. I'm going to assume positive intent, but the only logical explanation for the treatment you received was that the genius was disgruntled, but to have the same genius working on your machine every single time is highly suspect. To say the entire genius team servicing your mac was having a bad day every single time you came in would be absurd as well. So there may be something missing from this service experience you aren't telling us.
In any event, your case is very isolated and not the way Apple runs its business.
If you dont plan on installing a whole lot, you may be ok. Keep in mind that when SSD's are near capacity, they lose some performance.
Godot, it's too bad you had such a bad experience, but I would have escalated up the chain of command at the Apple Store if you were told you were less of a customer because you bought a refurbished model. Did you try going to a different Apple Store? Or contact Apple Canada? Anyway this is after the fact so it doesn't matter.
Each time when you brought it in for service, what did they do to "fix" it? Did they explain to you why it was crashing?
Its not that cut and dry.
new is better than refurb for sure but i believe they carry a similar warranty.
I bought a refurbished iPad that constantly and inexplicably crashed. I returned it several times to the Apple store and each time they handed it back to me it worked again -- for a week or so. On one visit, frustrated, I asked if I could simply have a replacement (To be clear: I asked for another refurb as a replacement). I was told, sorry, since it was a refurb I was stuck with it. I would just have to return with it each time I had a problem (I once returned with it within an hour after it was supposedly "fixed"). So, essentially, that is what I was reduced to doing - going to the Apple Store, lining-up and handing it over to repairs. Finally, on my 10th visit or so, I was told the item was now out of warranty. I protested that it never worked in the first place and that they had the records of my visits and "repairs" to prove it. They simply said "too bad", there was nothing they could do, but they assured me if I had of bought a new item they would have taken better care of me. I went home and ordered a Nexus 7 that night. I will never buy Apple again -- but if you are going to do so, I would recommend you only buy new.
Whereas new 11.6-inch comes with twice the storage, several hours more battery life, more powerful Haswell chipset $949 edu store.
I would personally go for the latter.
the 11 inch 2011 base model is 749
the new model (2013) if you go through the education store is only 949 brand new ...tempting ....especially the base now comes with 128 SSD instead of 64 plus the super battery life in the 2013 new model
