    • The thing I don't like about Amazon tablets is that they have a tablet that they sell with ads to bring the total cost down. I didn't really like this approach so I'm turned off of their entire product line now.

    • I thought these went to $99 last year?

But none of them here do that ...

    • I haven't seen the HD10 with 32 Gbyte memory any cheaper. But keep in mind that this tablet is outdated (2017 vintage, runs the equivalent of Android 5.1, can't be upgraded) and Amazon is about to replace it with a new 10" model. This is about the time they will start clearing them out in anticipation of a fall launch for the new model.

It was $99 or $109 last year, due to a $50 coupon. Can't recall exact price. CCC doesn't take coupons into account.

Thia tablet's been $154 quite a few times, so this is a warm deal.

    • No Google Play Store = No want (in spite of the great price).

Now if anyone had instructions on reliably installing and updating the Google Play Store on the Fire devices, that would be interesting.

The Amazon Fire Toolbox (https://forum.xda-developers.com/hd8-hd ... 0-t3889604) covers a bunch of operations, including:
      - Installing the Google Play Store and required Google supporting services in the correct order.
      - Changing the launcher
      - Removing ads (for U.S. ad-supported versions, n/a to Canada)
      - Rooting
      - Hiding and disabled (or removing if rooted) the Amazon bloatware
      - Blocking Amazon auto updates to prevent removal of user-added features and hacks

If you use a U.S. Amazon account you can enable hands-free Alexa and the Echo Show mode (not available currently in Canada).

Be sure to follow instructions precisely to the letter, as taking shortcuts or getting the order wrong will prevent it from working properly.

    • I bought the 32GB version for prime day. Believe its 99$.
Oh man, it was so crappyyy laggy and annoying with all the preinstalled shit and ads..
Gets super laggy once you install playstore and a new launcher to make it look clean..
      Returned..

I don't think it's a good deal since you can get a Samsung Galaxy Tab A (SM-T380NZKEXAC) 8.0 for $180 with code 63471 with better cameras (8mp back, 5mp front), full android support to Oreo 8 at Staples.

To be fair, you would compare that to the Fire HD 8 32 Gbyte which sold most recently during Prime Days for $90. There's no doubt the Samsung tablet is nicer - as it should be for twice the price.

I have both. Def not worth the extra for Samsung unless you need GPS. Compare to other $99 tabs, its a steal.

    • If I want a tablet for pure media consumption like Netflix on flights, is the Fire 8 acceptable?

Fire 8 is $75 at BB right now.

      Yes. https://help.netflix.com/en/node/23932

But 16 Gbytes internal storage on the base model is only about 7 Gbytes after all the Amazon bloatware, so you will probably want some microSD memory expansion for storing multiple hi-res videos.

Expanded base memory is overpriced on the Amazon tablets as it is on every other device.

It was $109 with a double stacked sale price and Amazon Prime additional discount together... I guess the additional prime discount doesn't show up on CCC.

Correct, CCC does not track Prime-only sale prices. For example the Fire HD 8 tablet was on sale Prime-only for $49 in March.
