    • Is Paperwight really much better then regular Kindle?

      Just need simple ebook reader...

      Thanks!

Historical low is $109, this is the waterproof version. If you're not interested in that, the regular Kindle is also on sale.

No, not if you don't need the waterproof feature.

DPIs are different, but you really wouldn't notice unless you put them side by side.

So unless you're planning to use it by the pool, tub, shower, etc., I'd just stick with the basic Kindle.

    • I had actually returned my regular one due to the ppi. The jagged letters just bugged me.

      I think it is.
Waterproof feature is nice to have. Are you really never going to use it by the pool or lake, or keeping an eye on the kids at bath time?

And the extra resolution really is nicer. Text looks smoother and you can have text a size smaller = less page turning.

Plus I think the backlight is a bit more even.

Each feature on its own isn’t much. Altogether though I think it’s worth the $30 difference.

    • Damn! I just bought one at the full price 3 days ago!

Contacted Amazon support, but they refused to price-match, quoting the policy. Even an escalation to a supervisor didn't help.

You should still be in the return window. Return it for a refund and buy this one.

/edit: Alternatively, check your credit card for price protection!

Yeah, that's what I'm doing. Just hoped to spare the hustle of shipping it back and setting up the new one. Or... I can actually wait for the second one to arrive and then ship it back with the return label for the first one. I really doubt they track them by serial number.

I would not risk it in case they do track serial numbers.

Yes I believe regarding the back light that there is 5 led instead of 4 providing a little more even lighting. The other nice feature that is not discussed much is the flush screen. On the regular Kindle dust easily collects in the corners of the screen. Paperwhite is much easier to clean.

Amazon never price matches so you're better off returning the one you have and ordering a new one if you want the savings. Shouldn't cost you anything besides a trip to the post office, you wouldn't even need to send yours back till you have the new one.

      Amazon = no price adjustments

They've been tracking electronics SN due to fraudulent returns.

To be fair, you are the one who complained about missing the sale price well within the return window and then considered sending back the wrong serial numbered device, we're not quite sure what you need pointed out to you lol

To be fair, I am the one who tried to find a creative solution to a ridiculous situation, while minimizing the headache for all the involved parties. Pointing out the trivial solution adds no value whatsoever.

    • KOBO allows you to borrow from the libraries using Overdrive. Kindle doesn't, I would only buy a kindle if you plan to use Kindle subscription or audible.

What's trivial about pointing out a solution to a problem you presented? Mike was just trying to help you out since you don't seem to know how amazon works, no need to be snide about it. Seems silly to criticize him for pointing out the obvious when you didn't even know their price match or return policy.

      Thread cleanup incoming......

Kind of a stupid question, but is the kindle books the only format compatible? Meaning I can only buy books?

For kobo, aside from overdrive, are other formats compatible as well? I read a lot on my phone so thinking of buying an ebook reader instead. Can I also sideload books on either of these? Either ePub or PDF? (I do this with google books app for my phone)

If kobo, which model would you recommend as a best deal for feature?

There was a thread back in May that had a lot of great comparisons and information on Kobo vs Kindle. You might want to browse that thread. Here is one of my posts answering some of your questions above:

In my opinion the Kobo is the only way to go until Amazon fixes a lot of issues with their interface, adds white balance / colour control, etc.
