How was streaming on the 4k, was it usable?
I know this isn't as fast as the cube, but will it be enough to stream live sports in HD through some IPTV app or something, are there better options out there for that purpose?
Also, how do you change the name of the device for recognition on the Amazon website? I have two and their name is very similar, which makes it confusing.
EDIT:
Hey cool. I loaded vlc and tried a 1080p 10-bit HEVC files and it played just fine on the 4K stick. I will have to try a 4K 10-bit HEVC file next.
I think I’ll have to discard my old 1080p Fire Stick and replace it either with the new 1080p one or else get another 4K version.

Thanks sswilson and thanks OP (both of them lol)!
One issue I have with the Fire Stick 4k, is I sideloaded RSS Player into it, but the navigation buttons don't work once a video starts. You can press the back button to get back to the menu, but sometimes the highlighted cursor disappears and you have to back out to the main menu and start again. Installing the RSS Player Android TV version does run ...an error appears saying it won't run because Google Play Services isn't installed.
I think they also released a new gui format for the prime app too (which is quite nice) around the time the new os came out and maybe thats where the confusion lies becuase that was the majority of the screens shots in reviews. As it stands the only difference visually. The "sponsored row" has smaller icons now than on the old firmware of my 4kfiretv.
My Fire TV Stick is not plug directly into the AVR, its via a Splitter with digital audio to AVR and HDMI output to the projector, as my older AVR do not has HDMI inputs only has digital audio inputs.
Also to confirm, your Fire TV Stick is directly plugged into an HDMI port on your AVR?
Let us know how it goes.
2. DD+ No sound
3. DD Has sound but with Netflix only low sound volume and 5.1 is not clean like PrimeVideo.
But thanks for the suggestion.
I’m also testing the chromecast with google tv and I’m still not sure which one I prefer.
the new os based on android 9 is alot peppier than the old os based on 7.Even tho it has less ram than the 4k its alot smoother quicker in menu. The os is out just doesn't look much different its on the new cube and the new models just not on the 4k yet.
it always comes in increments. On an old first generation firestick I had to factory restore it before it would update. But maybe it was insufficent space for the update? Once cleared it all went fine.
Anyone knoe when the new UI is coming out for the Firestick?
Also I have 4 of these already. Two bought recently at Shoppers with points during redemption
running IPTV, locked FW and custom launchers.
In other words - you save enough on the Cube to buy a firestick or chromecast as well. Plus it has an echo dot built-in as well as an ethernet adapter which are worth about $45.
I run Kodi, Jellyfin and Plex to watch shows stored on my PC or Nas. But Kodi doesn't need a server on the PC - it just uses network shared folders so I use it pretty well exclusively.
Kodi also has an addon to play directly from a rar file. So splitting a 10 GB or whatever into fat32 sized sections (4095mb) allows Kodi to read and play large mkv movies. I have a portable usb hard drive formatted to fat32 plugged into the cube using a powered hub and otg cable.
If the Nvidia Shield or Apple TV went on sale for almost half price it might be a contest - but just the Cube goes that low once a year.

So far I like it. The remote is only OK. I think the FireTV remotes are better. They feel more sturdy and I am not a fan of the volume buttons on the Chromecast remote. Interface is nicer/cleaner on the Chromecast but I had no issues really with the FTV interface. I do like the fact that it has native chromecast support (obviously) so I don't have to switch the input to my MiBox to cast things anymore. I also like how the new Chromecast pulls in content from all the subscription services which makes it easier to navigate for content. Only drawback is that this new version of Google/Android TV doesn't pull in PLEX content to the home page like it does on my MiBox and ShieldTV.
Overall the new chromecast is nice but each have their own Pros and Cons.
Some TVs also have absolutely horrible interfaces but amazing picture quality. Others will find that installing apps on an Amazon Fire TV Stick to be a lot easier than the built-in TV versions.
