View allThe reason I want the Android TV version is that you can pause the video without using an air mouse. I want to use the physical remote control buttons.
Instead of casting your video stream from an app on your device to Chromecast the Firestick, which is basically an Android device on a stick, runs the actual app. Lots of media apps from the Amazon AppStore are designed for the Firestick (CTV, Global, CBC, CNN, TWN, etc.) but many Android apps will also work even though not specifically designed for it (TSN, Kodi, etc..).

To sideload, it is a lot easier to use Apps2Fire from the Google PlayStore. Install onto your Android device with all your media apps and then use the app to push them onto the FireStick.
I'd rather not keep a PC running to just watch content if I can help it.
I have both (the new non-4K version and the 4K version) and there's no difference that I can see. If you want to futureproof in case you get a 4K TV, then get the 4K version - it's only $10 more.
PS. My IT guy didn't believe me so we tested it and as the difference was so noticeable, since then he will only recommend the 4k version or the cube.
Or install a Plex Server on your computer and the Plex app from the Amazon AppStore on the firestick (both are free).
Already have a smart TV and Chromecast for streaming.... What are the options if I want to access local content without breaking the bank?
...says the person who already has the item and doesn’t consider those who are looking for one at the moment (it’s always about THEMSELVES, isn’t it?)
Some of us just want the best deal today for things that can't wait and for other items we can wait for better deals.
Ordered a couple spares.
