Backup your precious photos and score a bonus from Amazon.ca, where you'll get a $15.00 Amazon.ca credit for free by using Amazon Photos.

An Amazon Prime membership is required and this offer is only available to first-time users of Amazon Photos. Amazon Photos is a service that automatically saves your photos to the cloud on devices running Android, iOS, macOS or Windows. The service is free for all Prime members with unlimited storage and for reference, the $15.00 credit is higher than the typical promo credit of $12.00.

Simply download the Amazon Photos app on your device, then turn on Auto-Save in the app and upload at least one photo. Once complete, you'll get an email within seven days to confirm your $15.00 Amazon.ca credit.

The $15.00 credit itself is redeemable on orders of $30.00 or more with merchandise sold and shipped by Amazon.ca.

This offer is effective until August 31 for Amazon Prime members only, while the $15.00 credit is redeemable until September 15.

    • $15 for giving Amazon access to a single photo on your phone seems like a perfectly fine deal to me. But if you really care that much about Amazon not having any data on you at all, you probably shouldn't be shopping with them in any way, shape or form any way.
I don't disagree that $15 isn't a bad deal for a single photo. And you're clued in to set up a file with a single photo to collect your $15 and then uninstall the app. What I'm saying is most people won't do that, and Amazon knows it. Otherwise they wouldn't offer anything for a single photo.

As for shopping with them, I don't need to grant them access to my media files to buy something. People are suckers for these "good deals", without understanding that whatever they're offered, the value of what they give in return is magnitudes greater.

    • Yeah, so it's a s**t deal either way, imo.

    • Right, but your comment was "Don't trust them not to change the TOS in the future" which is a moot point if you're installing it just to get the credit, and then uninstalling.

    • They bank on people granting blanket access, like most do (not specific folders). Once it's granted, they gain access to the photos you've taken, and even if you uninstall the app they already have what they were looking for.

    • I mean... If you're just doing it to get the credit and have no intention of using the app, just uninstall it once you have the credit? Problem solved.

FWIW, I've been using Amazon Photos for years (since Google stopped offering free full resolution backups) and it hasn't changed which folders it has access to. Maliciously choosing to intentionally grab all your images after you told it to only access certain folders would get noticed pretty quickly, particularly with a company under as much scrutiny as Amazon.

    • If you're good with taking the word of 3rd party services, knock yourself out. But ToS can be, and often are, changed.

Most people are too lazy to even bother reading the ToS (I know I am), let alone review "updates".

    • Lol, 15 bucks is a small price for Amazon to pay to gain access to a person's media files.
I was gonna say, does nobody realize $15 is peanuts for all your photos and videos? That’s billions worth in metadata

    • I installed it and gave it 1 folder with 2 pictures only. It's using 25% of my cpu and high power usage constantly. I had to shut it down. It's acting like a virus or bitcoin miner.
I didn't get the email but I was qualified. We'll see how it goes.
