    • I've had my Ultra since the 19th and while I will be keeping it, I do miss the size, shape, and feel of the S7 stainless steel. Considering my loathing of curved cell phone screens I thought I would appreciate the flat surface of the Ultra, but as it turns out it makes the screen a bit more difficult to use. Also the bezel/metal trim around the flat screen gets caught on things far more often than the curved screen on other Apple watches.

Edit: after installing one of these screen protectors, the issue of catching the edge of the screen has largely been solved

    • Larger battery, larger face, extra "action button", and built-in LTE connectivity if you need it. With that last one, it ends up getting quite close in cost to a standard Apple Watch 8 with LTE, since most of the ones you can find at deep discounts are the strictly GPS ones.

All the other stuff like "dual band GPS" and such is just all marketing fluff for 99% of people that are going to actually be using this thing.
      It’s also Titaannnniuuuummmm

    • Even then, the Fenix can be had for way less and has a WAY better battery life. But to each their own I guess.
No doubt the Fenix is a great watch. I primarily went the apple watch route for the outstanding cellular connectivity. The most expensive garmins have cellular but their capabilities really aren't comparable. As somebody who runs in the middle of nowhere without a phone I consider it very important.

    • Fenix is a sports watch with laughable smart features and riddled with software bugs. I wish people would stop comparing apples with oranges.
Agree to disagree. I’ve never had an issue with my Fenix 5X.

The apple watch I had on the other hand (get it?) had nightmare issues for me. Again, to each their own. Everyone will spend their money how they wish. The Apple Watch for me is way overpriced for what you get. But maybe that’s just me.

    • Will this get me laid?
By Palmela and her 5 sisters. (lol man I remember that from HS....terrible.

I'm all for Apple pushing into this space, I like Garmin myself (round watch, battery life for back country reliability).

I have had no issues with software from a smartwatch perspective, but all I want is notifications of email/txt/messages. I don't need to talk or whatever.
The training aspect of Garmin is really good for me too.

But like I said, Apple pushing into this space is better for me as a Garmin customer as it forces them to up their game!

    • Nice price, comfortable band

I love mine, the flat screen feels far larger than the series 8 despite looking similar on spec sheet, and the extra battery and brightness are handy.

I don’t think so. I tried paying for a date once by tapping my Apple Watch to impress the girl, but then got ghosted the next day.

    • These kind of watches are designed for the hardcore outdoor enthusiasts. Not something most people will buy to tell time at the mall (which you could do if you're rolling in the bling I suppose). Compared to top end Garmin dive watches that top $2000, the Apple Watch Ultra is a comparable bargain.
I have a very weird feeling when I see "Up to 36 hours of battery life" and "for the hardcore outdoor enthusiasts" together, ngl.

Ah, I knew there was some dumb product I forgot lol.

Never understood those products...the reality is I am not rich enough to do so. Which is why I've been on RFD for the past 15 years :)

    • Not a bad deal for a new product. I want one of these but since my Series 5 is still working well, I'll wait for an even better deal.

I like chunky looking watches so the Ultra would be an interesting upgrade for me so I will likely replace my 5 with this.

We've seen pretty good deals on the regular series Watches so I'm hoping to see good deals on the Ultra down the road. I expect we'll see more deals like this or better.
I'm the same, my series 6 is working well so I'll wait as well. The extended battery is great for me esp when I am on workout mode 8-10 hours, which currently drains the battery pretty fast on a normal watch.

    • Got this as a present and it's pretty sweet, even coming from my Series 7 LTE. But I'm a Garmin convert. You really don't need this watch unless you're deciding between it and a Fenix.

    • You can always return it if the watch is defective or locked. It's definitely worth a try. I got my Apple Watch 8 (GPS, 45mm) from Warehouse Deals for $428 + taxes and it was brand new with no issues with setting it up. It's been over a month now and I am super happy with my purchase.
I will also add that buying an Apple Watch could be a hit and miss from Warehouse Deals. This was my 5th attempt to buy an Apple Watch. All prior attempts (Apple Watch 7 and 8) resulted in cancelation of orders.

    • haha the Warehouse deals used one with "Cosmetic damage (Less than 10%) on the front side of the item." is 8 bucks more than new.

side note - don't buy Warehouse deals Apple products on Amazon. The last watch I got was locked to the Apple account of whoever had it first and there was nothing Amazon or Apple could do so I had to return it.

    • Similar here, I have a history with Garmin but will be going from a Series 7 LTE to this. Figured this Ultra will be the best balance for now between the two. Slightly concerned I'll miss the more sleek look of the S7 (in stainless steel in particular) but will see.
Yeah I thought it would be too bulky as well. The S7 is so slim I would often forget I'm wearing it.

It's definitely bulkier but it doesn't bother me at all when I'm wearing it in bed so mission accomplished I guess.

    • The irony is that they add more "tech" to their (Apple) watches - the biggest shortcoming (certainly compared to their competitors) is the battery life..

I wouldn't pay $1k for a technology like this that's still in its infancy, but it's been common for a couple of centuries now to have a very expensive watch.
