View allWorks great. I have no regrets about this purchase.
The tilt is lacking, I can't get it to point down, oh well I think it works fine for casual use which is what I expected. Quality is worse than my logitech cam but it does the job.
Overall I may be generous to say this is a comparable to a 720p logitech cam.
First of all, quality of this webcam is trash. I purchased two webcam, this one and AverMedia Live Streamer CAM PW313C from Costco, AverMedia is 100X better.
The second, this is even worse, I returned the webcam to Lenovo Canada, and it's delivered on Dec 1st, but I still didn't get a refund from them. I call to Lenovo Canada customer support 3 times, nothing helpful. Wasted money and time. This is UNACCEPTABLE!!
NEVER BUY FROM LENOVO AGAIN, NEVER!!

I don't put any light or lamp in front of me so the main lighting on my face is mostly from the monitors, which is usually less bright than the room or windows, but it doesn't really matter for conferencing. If really needed for high quality streaming or Youtube, I'd use some front lighting or pro quality cameras.
Yeah I haven't found a generic webcam settings utility that works with meeting apps. Still, the webcam alone seems to work well enough with Zoom and Meet.
There are newer versions of the SunplusIT: https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.co ... s%20Camera. I tried but it disabled the FHD webcam in the Windows Camera app. Zoom and Teams work fine but there's no device settings available and no difference in image quality. Zoom already has pretty good camera settings but Teams needs more balance subject lighting.
Would you say it's a better value? The Logitec is 2.5x the price, but it doesn't seem to offer 2.5x the quality?
For my purposes, it'd be running classes (maybe) or interviews...
In any case, a few minutes ago Win Update told me that a new driver was available for my webcam. The driver is called SunplusIT-Camera-5.0.18.73. SunplusIT makes webcams for notebook makers including Lenovo and is also the maker of the 500 webcam (also 300?) So I'm not sure if this is for the integrated camera or the 300. I installed it. That made no difference. But as I say, I can't get the 300 to work at all.
I found a driver for their model 500 webcam. This is supposed to provide "zoom/pan/tilt." I tried to install it just in case it might work, but it checks that a 500 is attached.
The mount with gooseneck came from an old smartphone mount that I bought at a dollar store some years ago. It's similar to the photo below:
Or you can just buy something like a UGREEN Phone Holder Tablet Stand and pay as much for the mount as the webcam
Note: Windows Snipping Tools seems to like to crank the brightness and contrast up by A LOT. When I looked at the preview window on my monitor all 3 looks decent.
The GoPro seems to produce the best image and also has the widest lens. The Lenovo's lens seems to let in more light or their firmware turns up the brightness by a lot where as the Logitech seems to have a decent amount of natural colour.
It's not bad for a $40 webcam. I'd use it over my phone as it can generate a lot of heat when using it as a webcam.
I honestly think they just found leftover parts to quickly put together a webcam since it's such in high demand.
Edit: Wanted to add this webcam doesn't have Anti-flickering software like Logitech has, so if you have LED lights, your image is going to look weird.
Edit 2: Tested the audio and the Lenovo is louder, but the Logitech was more crisp in terms of sound quality. No mic support for GoPro webcam mode.
Keep in mind the retail price of these devices:
Lenovo Essential FHD webcam: $80
Logitech C920: $130
GoPro Hero 8: $400
For people who don't like electrical tape, I was cleaning out some "legacy" junk in my basement when I came upon a sheet of matte black stick-on tabs for write-protecting floppy disks. If you're an old pack rate like me you'll find that these make a better job--if you can find your stash
However, that pic is mostly daylight lighting. I think it leans a bit green/blue in artificial light, but it's still fine for business use.
To put it another way, I think the colour balance is fine if the room is properly lit. However, it is not as good as other cameras for compensating for the colour tones of artificial light.
BTW, the hole punched electrical tape seems like an adequate albeit clunky interim solution for that white light. Too bad there isn’t a firmware option to turn it off.
So bad that the Lenovo webcam is not that great. Otherwise this would be such a great deal. I am using this webcam for my meetings etc and I don't want to deal with the laptop webcam anymore.
Next step: creating an RMA with Lenovo...
At some point though I’d love to get the Logitech 4K Pro Magnetic Webcam. Unfortunately it’s not available in Canada, and even if it was, it would probably be $249.
If you get the C920 though, make sure you get the C920s version. The C920s is seen as a UVC webcam without any special configuration.
I guess I am returning this Lenovo webcam and spend $99 on a C920s instead. TIme to place an order on Staples.ca.
You should see the "background" in my basement workshop/office
The "problem" is, this camera likely capture twice as much in the frame due to wide angle. Conference software is built to compute based on a much more confined frame from laptop webcams therefore way less things to analyze.
If virtual background is your thing, maybe you are right that this isn't for you but it's not because it sucks. I never use virtual background, I prefer to make sure my backdrop is presentable.
Some of these complaints are simply ridiculous.
I don't get why some of these negative comments about waste of money, bad quality and buying pizza is better (and pooping them out after eating). This is 200% fine for online meetings where video feeds are hugely compressed anyways. You complaining about 720p? Wait until you find out the real resolution that gets transmitted across the network.
Depends on what video conferencing app you use, some people artifically blurs out the background anyways. Like someone said, they spend $30 on some trash like pizza anyways, this is way more practical because I now don't need to undock my two laptops just to use the cameras on them.
Thanks OP!
Sometimes the obvious isn't so obvious, especially when I'm fixating on finding a "clever" solution
The residue will come off easily with a small drop of vegetable oil. Leave the oil on for a few minutes to soften the glue, then rub it all off with a kleenex, paper towel or rag.
Alternatively any tape will work if you "paint" it with a black magic marker or similar. For example painter's masking tape or even a "dot" cut from a Post-it Note. Both are designed to peel off without a residue.
Maybe the 300 FHD would be less annoying since the case is off-white anyway.
