this offer is expired

Start the new year with free coffee or tea for a month from Starbucks, because the Starbucks Coffee & Tea Refill Tumbler is back for another year and you'll get a free drink every day in January 2018 when you buy one for $49.95!

This year's tumbler is only available for purchase in Starbucks stores (their online store closed in October) and holds 473mL of liquid, which is equivalent to one grande-sized beverage -- you'll break even after approximately 20 drinks, as a grande beverage is regularly $2.57.

The tumbler itself is made with metal, which means you can reuse it long after the promotion is over and there's a limit of one free coffee or tea per day. Customizations like flavour shots are extra and Starbucks Reserve coffee is excluded from this offer.

The perfect gift for any Starbucks aficionado, this offer is available for a limited time only -- click here to find the Starbucks location nearest you.

    • So is there a similar promo for Feb?

    • So, now that this is all over, I'm wondering how people used it.

I consumed 85 coffees/teas, for a total value of $209.10. That's a "savings" of $152.60 or, if not counting the cost of the mug, $175.20.

I used it every day but two, and drank a lot more Starbucks than I would have otherwise. I have two locations within a 7 minute walk from my work, so I would go back and forth.

The unexpected benefit for me was the teas. I'd never had any, now I've tried them all. Peach Tranquility is awesome on the afternoon.

    • Both youthberry and passion tango were discontinued. RIP. I Would get the tumbler to make my own shaken iced tea lemonade. Havent found a replacement yet but the barista said there’s new teas coming in (?)
Tried one of those new teas today.... I asked about Passion Tango and the barista showed me their new tea catalogue sheet that had 3 new teas: https://www.bustle.com/p/what-are-starb ... ns-7847013

    • My mom goes to Starbucks at 0630h everyday to get a free coffee with my mug. They've never asked her for a card, but I've trained her to say "My daughter gave this to me for Christmas, you'll have to ask her for her card!" if it ever comes up. :P

What teas have you all been getting and what do you recommend? I was feeling adventurous the other day and wanted to try a more interesting tea, but it looks like Youthberry has been discontinued, so I ordered my usual citrus mint green tea.

    • I am actually prepared for this. I'd say, "this is my Christmas gift, what is 'the' app you are talking about?"
Oooh, good one!! I actually got mine as a Christmas gift too (but also have the app/card). 😂

    • Yesterday was my 3rd time using the tumbler and oddly, the barista asked to scan my app. I made a comment that the code is on the mug but she said "I know, I still need to scan the code." I made one more comment that the previous two baristas did not need the app, and pulled out my phone to scan the app anyway. This was a completely different Starbucks from the first two so I'm not sure if this store was told to follow a different procedure, but I got to thinking that not everyone is going to have the app or card to scan, and nowhere does it say the app/card is a prerequisite for using the tumbler. Don't get me wrong, it makes sense from a standpoint of tracking your entitlement to 1 coffee/day, but if that's the case, they better make that clear in the fine print.

It is actually ON the fine print, as well as ON the mug "Limit one per day".

    • I don't know how to tell 100% a corporate vs franchise store. Are the franchise ones in places like hotels where they show the Starbucks brand and logo but limited in things they do? If so, every store I went to in the last 3 days was not a franchise in Greater Vancouver.
I think this Reddit thread explains it better than I can: https://www.reddit.com/r/starbucks/comm ... h=d09966cc

I'm not even sure if the Starbucks.ca makes any indication which are corporate-owned vs. licensed-owned stores on their site.

Another reason is... maybe that employee didn't really know what they were doing? Or don't know protocol for these January tumblers...

Edit: just found a listing of licensed stores: http://www.starbuckseverywhere.net/LicensedStores.htm

    • Were you at a franchise store? Their procedures are a bit different when you have to pay... Maybe they needed your card/app to do the actual transaction and then punch in the code to reverse the transaction? I'm honestly not sure how it works but I try to avoid the franchise stores as much as possible because sometimes the purchases don't log properly for Star Dashes. lol

I went to three corporate stores this week in the Greater Toronto Area and only got teas each time but no one asked me to scan my card/app.

    • O okay. I definitely don't want to embarrass myself when I go for a 2nd drink and get told I've already used it today.
I think they're looking at the mug for the discount code to ring up in the POS system if they can't remember off the top off their head.
I don't think Sbux actually has a way to track how many brewed coffees/teas we've had... I'll be impressed if they ever develop a system to do that lol

    • Yes what about it....and there are 10 months after Feb.
      How about 2019?
Can we get free coffee at Second Cup with this tumbler as well?

      /s

Some of the questions that come up on this site sometimes really hurts my head.

    • There's a code at the end of all the terms and conditions...they key that in so that they can track the number of free coffees. I think it's the same code on every mug - starts with SBX18- I've been doing 2 or 3 free ones a day so far

    • Not sure if anyone has actually looked at the price of a starbucks tumbler these days, but they are closer to $30 (at least the 5 or so I looked at recently)

So an extra $20 for a month worth of coffee seems like a deal to me.

    • Anyone do it last year and know if you can go multiple times a day? How would they know if you went to a different location? Because otherwise $2.50 x 5(weekdays) x 4(weeks) = $50 so you are losing money on the tumbler after tax! (if you dont care about the tumbler) I go almost every week day but it doesnt look to be worth the hassle for me if its just 1 a day.
You're good to go if you go to a different location/later in the day when different staff are working. I doubt staff will even recognize you if it's a busy location. :)

In my case, I study/read at Starbucks for a few hours each day and get free refills so though this is tempting, I know they won't give me refills at the same location an hour or two apart.

Disgusting is a bit of an exaggeration IMO. I think Tim Hortons' coffee (if we can even call it that...) is closer to the label of 'disgusting'.
