it would be difficult for spotify to enforce. i could see them questioning you if your location is constantly pinging in BC while everyone else is in ontario.
Anyway I don't use a paid Spotify account, just the free one as I don't use it that often and find it to be too pricey for my use. I don't mind the ads TBH but what is annoying as hell is the ads are 10x louder than anything else! I think they do that on purpose so you subscribe?
Spotify Analyst: "Hmm too many people are staying on the free accounts it seems the ads don't bother them that much."
Exec: "What if we make the ads really, really loud then?"
Analyst: "I think you're on to something, let's do it!"

I got lucky then... our 'family' is now on its second year I think or 3rd... I am in BC and he is from Ontario... I pay $35...
We have a family plan. Geo locate rules would be hilarious as our kids go to school in other cities. So for 8 months of the year they'd be at a different address. So that rule would be challenging to enforce if they ever decide to try it.
Btw. There is good reason to sign-up your dog. Your voice assistant will count as an active login. So if my wife is at home listening to music over the voice assistant, and I am listening in the car, Spotify will keep toggling who is playing. Also it means your music preferences are changing based on household requests.
So give your voice assistance the dog's account. Chances are if your dog is with you on the car, he won't be making any play requests.
Don't see that big of a deal to switch even though my brother and I could use it, but the savings...
HOWEVER, I have found that Spotify does a few things better than Google Music, including curated playlists.
My kids watch a lot of YT and I like that there are no commercials. Also, YouTube Music is good for videos.
I think both apps are good but I think Google is putting more time and energy into YT Music now and ignoring GPM. It's starting to lag and YT Music isn't ready for prime time, IMO.
In terms of library, they are virtually identical.
If you're going to watch music videos or want to watch YT without commercials, it's not a bad way to go. But, you can't go wrong with Spotify for music.
Google Music is fine if you know what you want to listen to - but it's algorithms for finding music I like are terrible, in 4 years i barely found a single new thing on GPM. Since 6 months of spotify I have found tons of new artists.
The problem is that it's automated and auto-fills your address as you type. Because it's an American company using the Google database, it doesn't have my address. As a result, my entire family apparently lives in a ditch at the corner of the nearest major intersection.
As the primary account holder, I have only once been asked to update my address when Spotify changed some terms to add Family playlist, but I was able to manually enter my info. No one else on my plan needed to give their address again.
