I just watched all of Trickster last week without a premium sub and there were no ads.
I have stopped watching CBC and its news a few years ago as I find them not really to be "in political centre", but strongly skewed to the left.
I encourage others to look outside and get more sources/perspectives.
Here is a different angle on CBC's operations:

CBC anchors our news overall in Canada. It’s why we can actually recognise where political centre is.
The alternative is clearly on display to the south of us.
I can't support the fact that they canceled Trickster, however.
What kind of bonehead made the decision to fire a bunch of up and coming Indigenous cast and crew on a well reviewed, wide spread show because one person who isn't involved with the show anymore isn't as Indigenous as she thought?
(not to mention the fact that even if she is white, she was dedicated not to her own story, but to helping other Indigenous people have their stories told)
Based on this wording, my interpretation is if you were to cancel now, service would cease once a month has passed. So if you want to take full advantage of the offer, it would be better to cancel at the beginning of month 3.

I’m a little unsure on something though. I cancelled right away, like I usually do with trials, and I’m not sure if I just get the one month for $1 or if it’ll give me three months for $3.

Unfortunately, there's still no Roku app for the Gem content. Biggest shortcoming for me is no watchlist. If you browse the content you have to make a list with a pen and paper...no other app I've used is lacking this feature. The picture and sound looks as good as Netflix and Amazon Prime to me. Even without the premium sub, there are not very many commercials.
Not everyone needs all of the packages in your list. So at least for them, it's a savings.
And yes I wish someone would consolidate all the premium packages into a single offering so that I could pay based on the number of hours I stream rather than on the number of packages I need. For example if there's only one or two programs on Apple TV+ that I want to watch, why should I have to pay for a full subscription to watch them, then cancel, etc.?
Also, if you haven’t seen the series Normal People yet for 1$ a month to watch it add free is really worth it!! To my knowledge it isn’t available on any other platform.

Lots of other good stuff that might be on other streaming services but still: Back Country, The Witch, Freaks and Geeks, Kids in the Hall (!), the recent Les Miserables miniseries, Portlandia, Schitts Creek ...
This is a great deal, thanks OP.
CBC News is my main source of information, can't stand US news channels. Tons of great shows as well: Trickster, Normal People, Dragon's Den, War of the Worlds, The Great Canadian Baking Show and more.
“CBC TV” app on Roku is a free, ad-supported Live Stream service offering access to all 14 live local channels from across Canada, and their news broadcasts.
Please note that all live streams will contain ad breaks, as they do on conventional broadcast television.
