View allBasically, I'm trying to figure out the correct path to take to avoid getting hit with fees (or having to fight getting them removed). My initial thought was transfer most of the cash out, leaving a small amount ($100), then go to the bank branch to close the account and get the final $100 in cash. I don't see there being a real difference between 0 and 100, except if I leave anything in the account, they could try to charge fees against that balance?
How have others done it to close the account "smoothly".
Thanks!
Now that I've completed Scotia's offer I was thinking of opening an account with BMO since they also have a $300 promo, but you have to keep the account open for 1 year.. sheesh
Just posted here that the $300 is back on since April 1st but it didn't gain as much traction lol. Not sure why :P

It's a pretty easy way of getting the $300 imo.
Enjoy!
Is there a requirement how long to keep the account open?
Separate question, for those with Itrade, it worth applying through GCR to get the rebate? I'm worried about the accounts being a headache to link together properly to get the free trades perk.
Anyone care to clear this up, thanks?
Hopefully mine comes through early in May during the next batch...
If it helps anyone, I had setup PADs for TD DI, Wealthbar(BBS Securities Inc), WealtSimple Cash(Shareowner Investments), Tangerine Mutual Fund and Scotia Mutual Fund(which I was told would be counted as a simple 'Transfer' and not PAD). Tangerine MF's 3rd pull is yet to complete!
2)so i setup and activate my new scotia credit card profile first, and then the banking card profile(ultimate package)? i don't want to have two accounts and have PITA trying to merge them, thx
I checked again and realized I am still waiting on the third instance of my pre-authorized payments... so... hopefully my bonus shows up once those complete... I'm pasting the requirements below for reference and adding notes of where I'm against each:
Opened account on Jan 11.
Funded account via e-transfer, and a payroll deposit on the 15th.
-----
Make an eligible $50 bill payment through online or mobile banking. (did this very quickly - Jan 15)
Set up at least 2 eligible separate recurring pre-authorized transactions that are $50 or more, which will each recur monthly for a minimum of 3 consecutive months and the transactions clear. (Auto/Home insurance Feb 1, Mar 1, Apr 1 not yet posted... Gas bill Feb 18, Mar 22, waiting for April payment)
Set up an eligible recurring direct deposit, which will recur monthly for a minimum of 3 consecutive months and the transactions clear. (Payroll deposit started Jan 15th - monthly)
The $300 cash bonus will be deposited directly into your new Ultimate Package or new Preferred Package account within 2 months of completing the above requirements.

Based on the above... I should complete all 3 items (only 2 required). Payroll and bill payment should be complete... pre-auth payments will be complete for 3 straight months in late April. They state the bonus will be deposited "within 2 months" ... so I guess I will be waiting to see if/when it shows up. I'll post here when it does so others know the timing. I believe several people got payments on the 5th this month, so perhaps they process these monthly in a batch? Within a week maybe some people get bonus payments?
