    • Is the effort to do this and remember to cancel worth $300 7 months down the road?

Turn in your RFD membership!! People are saving pennies on grocery items here. $300 is high living ;)

Seriously, if this pays out properly, couple hours effort for $300 is good. Thanks OP.

You can apply an account online, and it should take you 10 minutes. Or even you open an account in branch you don't need an hour. I don't know how much effort you need to remember to cancel the account though. 😉For most of RFDers here they just add to a calendar to remind and then call.

Last time I tried this I didn't get the 300$ and wasted so much time since one of my deposits didn't qualify or some bs like that. it takes more effort than people make it out to be.

    • Keep in mind that to be eligible, you can’t have had any CIBC chequing accounts within the past 5 years (in the T&C pdf).

That happened with me and the $500 bonus for a new Coast Capital account. The guy at the bank who opened the account for me gave me incorrect information, and Coast Capital said they couldn't do anything about that because I needed to read the fine print. That was bs given the fact that I opened at the branch.

    • Last time they required me to visit a branch to cancel the account. Can't do over the phone without me making a big fuss....

    • Awesome, I needed an account to waive the annual fee on the cibc visa infinite card anyways.

    • I just tried to apply, and they 'updated' my offer to 12 months free without the $300. I am not sure why - I have never used CIBC before. Since today is the first day of the offer, I'm going to try again later. Just be careful if you're trying to apply.

    • Is there a minimum amount to qualify for pre-authorized debits? Also, for the direct deposits from an employer, do Uber, Skip the Dishes, and other services qualify and is there a minimum amount for direct deposits as well?

    • Thanks OP for the post.

    • It is good to see there is no minimum amount for preauthorized payments. Similar promos from other banks wants $50 minimum.
