Government of Ontario Government of Ontario: Register Now to Get a FREE Smart Thermostat (Select Residents Only) Select Ontario Residents Get a FREE Thermostat!
get this dealIn August 2017, the Government of Ontario introduced a new initiative for select residents to get a free smart thermostat through the GreenON Installations Program. There were only 100,000 free thermostats available and early registrations filled quickly due to overwhelming demand.
If you missed out then, you're in luck, because registration for the GreenON Installations Program has re-opened!
This program is only available to homeowners or renters in a single-detached, semi-detached, townhome or row home in Ontario. To register, click "Register Now" on the GreenON Installations page and a representative will contact you at a later time to arrange an installation appointment. Eligible renters will also need to submit a landlord consent form before installation.
Eligible smart thermostats include the ecobee3 lite, Honeywell Lyric T6 and Nest Thermostat E -- both the thermostat itself and installation will be provided free of charge. We've linked each model to their manufacturer website for you to learn more.
Registration is open for a limited time and installations will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-serve basis -- click here to learn more about the GreenON Installations Program.

Can't tell if this is phishing or not
Yes, he did show up. However, they only had the nest thermostat. Installation took less than 30mins.
Anyone else have a similar experience?
That said, Carrier sells a Cor "smart" thermostat model that does essentially what a Nest or Ecobee does and does it over their proprietary Infinity protocol. Only hitch is the cost is also Infinity--several times what a Nest/Ecobee costs plus installation. KY Jelly not included.
That said, those thermostats tend to be pretty "smart", so the benefits to moving to a Nest or Ecobee are pretty much nill.
Thanks.
Took 15 mins. Chris was the guy. V professional and quick.
Remember to have your WiFi information handy for the installer so he can lead you through it.
So far, so good. I was glad to have benefited from the program before it was shut down by the incoming government.

It was announced last Thursday by Ford, but the GreenON website hasn't been updated yet: http://toronto.citynews.ca/2018/06/21/d ... announces/
Here's Doug actually discussing the extension: https://globalnews.ca/video/4288320/wil ... on-rebates
Mine was also installed crooked, not to the degree I had to make new holes but had to slowly tighten screws to align it right. Holes were just off by a bit, causing it to be crooked when tightened.
I have 4 wire setup and need them to put a PEK in the furnace so I am doing the wiring planning research myself to make sure it's done properly.
Whatever I can help to make sure that it's still done right even if they are in a rush.
So now I have a noticeably crooked ecobee on my wall, that can't be fixed unless I put new holes. I'll probably have to move the entire thing over as well just so the new holes don't break into the old ones. But all that counts is that I got a "free" thermostat, right?
Edit - Also, I never received a phone call. Neither the day before or right before they showed up. The only call I ever received was to move my appointment up a couple weeks ago.
a young guy.....was in and out in about 30-40mins including install and survey questions. Installation was smooth!
Good luck to everyone else!
The Ontario government suddenly cancelled hundreds of millions of dollars worth of programs meant to fight climate change on Tuesday, without anybody apparently being responsible for it.
