View allI like it. Carbon forks, sora or better gears. Kinda racy position, but not as racey as it gets. Almost the same geometry as a CAAD13. Geo trickle down from higher end bikes never hurts.
She can probably ride a 51cm frame in a racey position (fits like a glove), 54cm and you'll have to shorten stem (more comfort).
Plus you get rim brakes. Much more lighter and easier maintenance involved.
You can still get Cannondale at LBS.
The Advent X drivetrain on this Trail 5 is good enough. The Deore drivetrain on the Marlin 6 is a better shifting experience.
Di2 is amazing, but I'd say it's not even worth it as a hobby/club rider, unless you're keeping up with the jones' (which happens a lot in clubs). The average hobby/weekend warrior cyclist can't (shouldn't?) justify the extra ~$1k for electronic shifting unless they've got money to burn (which, likely aren't people scoping for clearance bikes at MEC). Most would be better off putting that money to work in other areas of their bike. But, yeah if you can afford Di2 (without sacrificing too much else), then yeah it's quite the experience. I would jump from Tiagra to 105 (disk) but wouldn't make the jump to 105 Di2. The step past 105 is basically weight savings (and/or electronic shifting).
Just my $0.02. Pretty sure Shimano is dropping the mid-range lines (Tiagra, Sora, and Claris) anyways and replacing with single interchangeable group called "Cues". And, then I'm pretty sure 105 becomes 12spd, while Cues covers 9-11 speed.
The Bike Zone have those on sale right now for $1400. Nicely specced out with Shimano Deore.
The issue with the bike market is that the prices crept up a lot during covid and inflation, and some of these prices are more in line with precovid prices. From what I see, retailers are still trying to clear out excess stock. It's unusually to see so many discounts on bikes at the beginning of riding season. I believe that will continue for at least a while yet.
Times have changed, so confusing what bikes to get!.. i would have just bought another sportchek bike or costco bike but some of my guru bike friends said i should look into hybrid with 1x11 or 1x12 drive train. Then i started looking at Trek Dual Sport 3 Gen 5, FX4, FX3 Disc and wow so confusing. But i think i narrowed it down to the BMC bike Alpen Challange four as that seems to have the craziest equipment for the price.
Thanks to this thread i am goign to be out $1500+ dollars lol!
On the flip side the diminishing returns once you get past Tiagra are very minimal until you go to Di2, which I think is worth it if you are riding as a sport/hobby and not just recreationally.
Or are there better helmet deals elsewhere? I just need a basic helmet for light trail riding.
I believe 650b wheels are better suited for rougher terrains (ie single track) as you get a bit more clearance for a thicker tire.

Does anyone have thoughts about this bike at that price?
Thanks!
Really like the dark green of the XFR 2, and for cheap running gear it handles really well. Even climbs decently.
poor thing about costco bikes is the sizing otherwise would be a definite yes on my end.
looks like im gonna have to pony up at least $900 if I want a decent bike at a specific size frame.
I was comparing it to the Cannondale Trail 6 thats at MEC. https://www.mec.ca/en/product/6013-828/ ... Slate+Grey
Seems to be pretty similar in components. But having live close to Rock City Cycle, I figure if I buy the Norco off them they can help me out with the maintenance.
Mainly just want it to pedal around town and maybe hit a couple of light easy going trails and tow my kids in a chariot stroller.
Personally, hydraulic disc brakes is a really noticeable improvement over most cable disc brakes that I've tried.
Rode it home and it's great. Had the hyper sinister deal from Walmart before and this feels way better. Although they didn't do a good job setting up the front derailleur. Oh well, this is gonna get converted to mid drive anyway
